Wadih Fares is President of W.M. Fares Group. Wadih came to Halifax as a young man when war was raging in his home of Lebanon in the 1970s. Welcomed by the existing Lebanese community in Nova Scotia, he graduated as an engineer from Dalhousie and TUNS and set out to raise his family. He has built up a substantial residential and commercial property management and development firm with projects throughout Canada. His Halifax centerpiece is the Trillium one of Halifax’s most luxurious condominium buildings located across from Victoria Park in downtown Halifax. His company is about removing complexity. Seeing an opportunity in the 1980’s he brought together all the disciplines involved in development projects so clients don’t have to deal with the multiple contractors. Fall Back Up with Audrey Parker

This is a very personal podcast for me. Audrey Parker has been a close friend since the mid-1980s. Audrey is, as you will hear, a remarkable woman. She was born in the Annapolis Valley into a family of modest means but she always felt there was a very different path for her. Recently, Audrey has drawn considerable attention for her advocacy for Medical Assistance In Dying or MAID. The past two years, since she was diagnosed with cancer, have been some of Audrey’s richest days. This interview is from two weeks ahead of Audrey’s planned death. Her attitude and approach to death are both pragmatic and passionate. What was perhaps most striking about this conversation is the juxtaposition of Audrey’s enthusiasm and zest for life and her impending self-determined death. It’s an exploration of her life and of her approach to cancer and for her the inevitability of her death. Please enjoy this candid conversation with my fabulous dying friend, Audrey Parker. CRA now has a team of 30 research professionals, with offices in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Newfoundland & Labrador, Ottawa, and Bermuda. He recently announced he will be passing the torch to his senior executive team as the end result of a multi-year succession plan. Don doesn’t shy away from controversy. I met with Don at his offices in West End Halifax. I hope you enjoy my conversation with the forthcoming, frank and well-...

Fall Back Up with Joost Janssen

I first was introduced to Joost Janssen through his childhood friend and former Halifax MLA Joachim Stroink. The two knew each other as youngsters, growing up as Dutch immigrants in Nova Scotia in the 1970’s. Joost Janssen was born in Holland but his parents moved to Halifax from Holland when he was very young. As it is with any immigrant family, it wasn’t an easy transition. In some ways, Joost still considers Nova Scotia home, however, he is now living in San Diego, California. His life has been an amazing journey with tremendous highs and, as you will hear, some earth-shattering challenges. After a particularly dark episode, Joost was determined to become a US Navy SEAL Team member. It is perhaps the most difficult of all military training regimens and is notorious for taking participants to the very edge of their capacity to endure. In this episode we’ll explore Joost’s experience in Halifax, the reason he chose to join the Special Forces and the exciting career he has embar...
