My theme this week is:Fear: the unknowable Some one once said: feel the fear and do it any way. Yesterday, at the #FeMasCon -ference, doing what I love, I rebuilt my confidence. It wasn't about breaking through unique fear simply with willpower, it was by seeking help and building the necessary strategies. Listen to my story of conquering my fear. Today's tip:fear of the unknowablemayparalyze -and it often distorts the truth - but it is part of our life experience so developing a clear set of strategies and welcoming support to navigate the trip is the only way to accomplish that which matters most. Fear: a search for meaning

My theme this week is: Fear: a search for meaning We all seek meaning in our life. Purpose and meaning is a shared goal of every human life. Baumeister's research demonstrates how every thing we do is driven by our need to belong. Belonging is essentially about mattering to another. Our purpose is all about ensuring our life matters. "I will show you fear in a handful of dust." T.S. Eliot Today's tip: How we choose to be and carry our self through life, matters. In fact, being self-aware, comfortable in our own skin, and allowing it to flow out in service to others makes a lasting impact. The dust we leave in the wind once our time on earth is done, matters. The hint for next week: "while you were fearing IT, IT came". Learn more about the FeMasCon-ference athttps://www.femascon.com/ Contact me for a discounted ticket. Fear: a search for meaning

226 - Generative, I am

My theme this week is: Finding the Lesson The ease with which we can shift situations into lessons determines just how generative we will be. It requires practice. Receiving feedback is one of the richest opportunities to apply this skill. We tend to refuse to hear the lesson because of the feelings of threat that feedback produces. Perhaps that's why we are so bad at offering feedback too! Choosing to be generative in your approach creates and grows your power. It is worth the investment. Today's tip:Being in learning mode is effortful and it requires self regulation and a deep desire to be in continuous growth. BTW, it pays off handsomely. The hint for next week: TSElliot's quote: "I will show you fear in a handful of dust." Learn more about the FeMasCon-ference athttps://www.femascon.com/ Contact me for a discounted ticket. 225 - Finding Power in Strength

This week's theme: strength is powerthrough self-regulation Lao Tsu reminded us that "mastering others may be strength, but mastering yourself is true power". Perhaps mastering power to accomplish anything of value is available through effectivedeployment ofstrengths with the skills of self regulation. Resisting change appears to be human nature. A client recently mentioned he expects he will change when the pain gets bad enough. I asked if he'd heard of the frog enjoying the warming water! Today's tip: when you're willing to develop the self regulation skills to own your life's purpose, you can maintain the temperature of the water around you within a livable range. Be responsible and accountable for your own life. Own it. The Hint for next week's episode: Quick...What's the lesson? 224 - Stuck Looking Back

This week's theme:change-back reaction When a need or desire for change is really clear but the desired state is unclear, Newton's 3rd law of motion is more difficult to navigate. Learn how to adapt through the process of change to land ultimately in a place you desire to be, even if it is a bit different than you anticipated. Today's tip: every attempt to change or accelerate growth will be met with resistance, there are a variety of ways to respond but respond you must. Be prepared for it and consciously make a choice that works for you. The Hint for next week's episode: is it power or strength you seek? 223 - What Anger Evokes

This week's theme:meaningful change Are we more motivated to change by a deep pain point or a highly desired outcome? Baumeister's research demonstrates that everything we do is motivated by our need to belong. So which is more powerful, the threat of not belonging or the need to deeply connect with others? Perhaps this reveals why a campaign for change, focused on hearts and minds, is more sustainable. We are captivated by a need to change when it's relatable. Still, fear powerfully activates people, but with a short shelf life. Today's tip: change is inevitable...meaningful and sustainable change requires a willingness to go beneath any move for change to access the pain and subsequent anger or emotion evoked. This week's theme:to be willful It's often described as stubborn AND not considered to be a positive trait. I prefer to think of it as determined. What if we take some time to explore fresh ways to respond to and release the power labels hold over us. I am now embracing my willful nature as I value my whole self. 221 - Seeking to Be

This week's theme: feeling content In my estimation contentment starts with being happy or satisfied with who you are. Perhaps it is only possible when doing the work to be more self aware. A person feeling content is capable of releasing the need to prove anything. It's attractive because it is full of depth and meaning in both being and doing. How about striving to be better rather than striving to have more? That's contentment and freedom. Today's tip: Ask yourself whatyou value most in life? 220 - Habits that Stick

This week's theme: habitually stuck Do you have habits that once served you really well but no longer do? Perhaps you developed them to fit a particular job or a challenge you were facing. Has that habit become so embedded in your behaviour that you over-use it now? Consider taking stock of your habits and learn how to pick and choose what's serving you today and what's not. The ability to make the shift in habits throughout your life and career is worth nurturing. Today's tip:pay attention to the reason a habit is so sticky for you and determine how it served you once and whether it still does. The Hint for next week's episode: what does it take to be happy? 219 - Life Examined

This week's theme:an examined life To grow and learn we need to feel engaged and interested. Typically persistent pursuit of understanding requires a connection to meaning or purpose. Perhaps when Einstein suggests imagination is more important than knowledge he offers a hint. Imagination is a type of examination. This week in the podcast I reflect on human conversation as a vehicle to living an examined life. While it is certainly a joyful way to explore, it can feel empty too, or so I declare. Today's tip: Build time, even small increments of time, into each day. Use this time to reflect, even from within the clouds to open your mind & imagination. Live an examined life.
