3 Ways to Increase Your Peace This Advent

1. Attempt to Mend Relationships Philippians 4:2-3 Philippians 4:5 2. Rejoice in the Lord Philippians 4:4 “Rejoicing in Christ is also crucial because idols are almost always good things. If we have made idols of our work and family, we do not want to stop loving our work and our family. Rather, we want to love Christ so much more that we are not enslaved by our attachments. “Rejoicing” in the Bible is much deeper than simply being happy about something. Paul directed that we should “rejoice in the Lord always”, but this cannot mean “always feel happy,” since no one can command someone to always have a particular emotion. To rejoice is to treasure a thing, to assess its value to you, to reflect on its beauty and importance until your heart rests in it and tastes the sweetness of it. “Rejoicing” is a way of praising God until the heart is sweetened and rested, and until it relaxes its grip on anything else it thinks that it needs.”TIm Keller 3. 3 Ways to Increase Your Hope This Advent

“Advent allows for a slowed reflection upon the Christian’s reason for celebration on Christmas. In the midst of chaotic cultural practices, observing Advent promotes reflection on God’s past actions and building anticipation for the fulfillment of God’s future promises in the return of Christ.” Pastor Matt Butler God’s Word Romans 15:4 “If we resist the Bible, our only remaining basis for truth is our feelings and/or poplar opinion. That’s a dangerous place to be.”Scott Sauls God’s Church Romans 15:5-6 Hebrews 10:24-25 “This is the body of Jesus. This is my church. My family. My home. It is composed of people who need God’s grace, just like me. It will be friendly if I am. It will do great work if I join in the work. It will make generous gifts to many causes if I am generous. It will bring others into the family if I bring them. The seats will be full if I fill them. It will be a church of loyalty, love, faith, honesty, joy, and service if I who make it what it is, am ...

A Christian’s Guide to Preparing for Advent

Already, but not yet Advent is a season of looking back and leaning into the future. 1 John 2:28John 1:12 Four Ways To Prepare For Advent Know the reason for the season (1 John 2:29, 1 John 4:7-8)Know God’s love (1 John 3:1, John 3:16, Romans 8:38-39)Keep your eyes on Jesus (1 John 3:2) Purify yourself (1 John 3:3) For every look at self—take ten looks at Christ! –Robert Murray McCheyne “The often unseen and unsung ways we spend our time are what forms us. Our mundane moments, rooted in the communal practices of the church, shape us through habit and repetition, moment by passing moment, into people who spend their days and therefore their lives marked by the love of God. Light!

John 8:12-30 I believe in Christianity as I believe that the Sun has risen, not only because I see it but because by it, I see everything else. C.s. Lewis Come & See: Jesus is the true and better light! Heavenly Father, I admit that I am weaker and more sinful than I ever before believed, but through your Son, Jesus, I can be more loved and accepted than I ever dared hope. I thank you that he lived the life I should have lived, and paid the debt and punishment I owe. Receive me now for his sake. I turn from my sins and receive him as Savior. I want peace with You. It’s in Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.”
