Truth of the Week 40: Find Real Rest

Find Rest Show Notes 40: For more of the show, listen in! Welcome to Pursuing true North’s Truth of the Week Series! I am Catherine King and I’m Jenny Cioto! This week’s Truth of the Week – Matthew 11: 28-29 – Come to Me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you, and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. ~ Have you gone to Him? Jesus, that is. He’s the Way to the Father. The Only Way – His words (John 14:6). ~ Coming to Jesus is an act of our will – a step of obedience to His call on our lives. He is calling us to Him. We have to respond and come ~ lowly in heart? I discovered in all my commentary reading that it’s referring to Christ’s compassion and understanding of how we as humans don’t want or need more overbearing, demanding, harsh and oppressive obligations and He is offering us the opposite of that. ~ The current climate of religion at the time was established by the Phar...

Truth of the Week 39: If We Will, He Will

Show Notes for If We Will, He Will Welcome to Pursuing true North’s Truth of the Week Series! I am Catherine King and I’m Jenny Cioto! This week’s Truth of the Week – 2 Chronicles 7:14 – If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land. NKJV ~ Solomon’s wisdom history ~ God came to Solomon in his dreams with this very straight forward message. Interesting to note, God is talking to HIS people – not the lost or the unsaved – but to His people called by His name. It makes sense though, doesn’t it? Why would God ask the lost to get their lostness together – I think I made up that word?! ~ Reading commentary and looking up the Hebrew for the word pray, we find that the way it’s used here has root definition in the word judge and intercede. ~ As God’s people we need to make our assessments of our current state of living and sea...

This week’s Truth of the Week – Psalm 32:5 – I acknowledged my sin to You, and my iniquity I have not hidden. I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the LORD,” and You forgave the iniquity of my sin. NKJV ~ This whole Psalm is focused on the joy of forgiveness – in particular God’s forgiveness and what we have to do in order to receive greater blessing and peace with God. ~ Could it be possible that you aren’t receiving peace in your life because you have sin you have hidden? ~ Before this verse, David speaks in verses 1-4 about how blessed those who have their sins forgiven are! Where the spirit has no deceit there is blessing (v.2). In verse 3 he says his bones grew old and he groaned in his spirit when he felt the pressure of the hand of God upon him when he was silent about his sin. Even ...

Truth of the Week 37: Desires for Pleasure

Desires for Pleasure Show Notes 37 For more of the show, listen in! Welcome to Pursuing true North’s Truth of the Week Series! I am Catherine King and I’m Jenny Cioto! This week’s Truth of the Week – James 4:1 – Where do wars and fights come from among you? Do they not come from your desires for pleasure that war in your members? NKJV ~ Fighting within ourselves brings fights outside ourselves ~ It’s hard, isn’t it? Trying to work with others and not let our own desires and ways leach out onto others while we seek to have our way and our will be executed just exactly as we desire? ~ We feel like we deserve things in life to be a certain way. We have expectations and we want what we want when we want it. Sometimes we want things that have nothing to do with the will of God for our lives, we just have selfish desires for pleasure! ~ Sin feels natural. Sin feels good to our bodies. Truth of the Week 36: Willing Spirit Weak Flesh

This week’s Truth of the Week 36: Show Notes– This week’s Truth of the Week – Matthew 26:41 – Watch and pray that you may not enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak. ESV ~ Boy do I struggle with having my spirit really desire to behave and speak certain ways and then my weak flesh does the opposite! ~In this verse spoken by Jesus Himself – He was in so much agony praying in Gethsemane. Interesting to note, Gethsemane was East of Jerusalem and was a place where olives were crushed for oil. I love all the symbolism in the Bible ~ Jesus asked His disciples to watch and pray while He went a few away to pray privately. They were sleeping. It was late and Jesus knew they were human and needed supernatural power to fight the temptation that would come upon them in the events that were about to unfold in their lives. Jesus knew they would be tempted. He knows we will be tempted. ~ We are weak without the infusion of the work of God in our lives ~ Wh...

Truth of the Week 35: Profiting from Trials

This week’s Truth of the Week 35: Show Notes– James 1:2-4 – My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing. NKJV ~ All joy?! Ahhhhh! ~ Looking at the verbiage here – “when you fall….” Not if, but when. ~ One of the ways I have handled some really rough spots in my life was telling myself that there are people out there that have it worse than I did. It still didn’t resolve the pain in my life but it helped with my perspective. Even if others have it worse it does not negate the pain in your life, it just helps a little to recognize that even as hard as you have it, God has protected you from something else. ~ Relying on the fact that we know that these trials are testing our faith and we will be profiting from them! ~ Its is italicized. I didn’t see commentary on why so I’m going to speculate here. It must...
