Episode 060 – New Year’s Evil

ENew Year’s Evil (1980) “During a New Year’s Eve celebration, a Los Angeles disc jockey receives a phone call saying that when New Year’s strikes in each time zone, someone will be murdered – and she will be the last one.” What we have here is a classic money grab based on the slasher theme of the 1980’s brought to us by the wonderful duo of Menahem Golan and Yoram Globus, better know to the world as the faces of Cannon Films from 1979-1985 where they churned out such quality films as The Apple, Breakin’, Breakin’2: Electric Boogaloo, Lifeforce, Hercules, and Otello to name just a few. This gem features fun mental patients, exciting motorcycle chases, nurses with questionable morals, mysterious champagne, confused young men wearing tights inappropriately, and a really really cool halloween mask. Have a listen and see what we thought of it!! This time Swan and Bill are joined by the marvelous Jessi! New Year’s EvilstarsRoz Kelly,Kip Niven,Chris Wallace, andGrant Cramerand wa...

Episode 059 – Joey

EJoey (1986) “Due to conflict with his hard drinking father, who is a working class former musician, a talented teenager runs away from home and seeks to start his own musical career.” Yeah, that basically sums it up. There’s a smashed window and some other hijinx, and some terrible acting as well. Screamin’ Jay Hawkins, The Ad-Libs, and the Silhouettes have performances in this movie, so it’s got that going for it. JoeystarsNeil Barry,Frank R. Episode 058 – Queen of the Damned

EQueen of the Damned (2002) “The Vampire Lestat becomes a rock star whose music wakes up the queen of all vampires.” …Late nineties angry numetal, a love story, a showdown, gothy angst, OH MY! IT’S GOT IT ALL!! This one haphazardly smashes together the plots from the a handful of Ann Rice novels that Warner Brothers managed to acquire the rights to, nearly completely diverts from the storyline of the novels, AND was given the screenplay treatment by a pair of TV Movie writers! AND JONATHAN DAVIS ON VOCALS! Oh yes, Swan and Bill really DID watch this movie. Episode 057 – Fright Night 2: New Blood

EFright Night 2: New Blood (2013) “By day Gerri Dandridge is a sexy professor, but by night she transforms into a real-life vampire with an unquenchable thirst for human blood. So when a group of high school students travel abroad to study in Romania, they find themselves ensnared in Gerri’s chilling web of lust and terror. Charley and “Evil” Ed must stop Gerri from drinking and bathing in the blood of a “new moon virgin,” which just so happens to be Charley’s ex-girlfriend, Amy. They enlist help from Peter Vincent, the vampire hunting host of a reality show called “Fright Night,” to drive a stake through Gerri’s plan and save Amy from a fate far worse than death.” …Yeah, that’s basically it. This one smashes together the plots from the original Fright Night and the Fright Night remake, yet maintains no continuity and also throws in the Elizabeth Bathory legend as well for extra flavor! Lend us your ears and spend some time listening to us gripe. Fright Night 2: New Bloo...

Episode 056 – Dead Alive

EDead Alive (1992) “A young man’s mother is bitten by a Sumatran rat-monkey. She gets sick and dies, at which time she comes back to life, killing and eating dogs, nurses, friends, and neighbors.” …Wow, way to undersell it. This movie is one of Peter Jackson’s greats, before the Lord of the Rings trilogy happened and cemented him as a “serious” film maker. Dead Alive (aka Braindead in every territory except for North America) was his follow up to “Meet The Feebles”, which is highly recommended if you’ve not seen it. This film held the record for the most amount of fake blood ever used, so there’s that at least. This one is a short episode, Swan and Bill have been on a break for a while and we’re welcoming you back with this wonderful masterpiece. Dead AlivestarsTimothy Balme,Diana Peñalver,Elizabeth Moody, andIan Watkin, and was directed byPeter Jackson. IMDB|Rotten Tomatoes|Wiki
