About Us

Four ladies come together to read cheesy romance novels and discuss the best of the worst. From terrible character clichés you love to hate; to descriptions of chiseled backsides, rippling muscles, and flowing hair that might make you laugh rather than sigh; and to sexy times that might not be all that sexy, this is the world of Bodice Ripping! Not sure how to relate to romance novels when the romance might be too over the top? No worries! Alli, Gina, Lauren, and Rachel discuss characters, plot points, and most importantly, what happens in the bedroom, through the lens of real world relationship advice and what to really expect in real life if your ideal boyfriend is a shirtless man in a kilt. A romance-novel-Fabio might not be the best example of a healthy relationship, but true romance is real. And really, what would life be without a little bit of self-indulgent bodice ripping to spice things up? This content is intended for mature audiences.

The Internet is Concerning

Our heroines breathe a sigh of relief when they read a book that’s actually good, A Promise of Fire! Cat is the Kingmaker, a woman who possesses powers to divine the truth through lies, & when she’s found by the warlord Griffin, she is literally roped into helping him keep the throne. With cool magic & a hot romance, this is the series for you! Join the ladies as they discuss Kylo Ren, how women-driven narratives make romance stories more enjoyable for women (surprise!), & the merits of sexy spanking.

Powered By Girl Farts

In Bodice Ripping’s sixth episode, our leading ladies find out that the The Angel Wore Fangs by Sandra Hill is so terrible, they question the life choices that led them to this point. The plot is bonkers, the sex is terrible, the dialogue is unspeakably bad, & everyone suffers in the end, except the lucky listeners of this podcast, because they didn’t actually have to read this hot mess! Join our heroines as they discuss incorrect Viking history, wearing designer cowboy boots in the bath, & farting in b

Mediocre Girl with the Magic Vagina

Our heroines try (and partially fail) to power through Night Pleasures by Sherrilyn Kenyon! The story is set in New Orleans, but could literally be anywhere else. Leading man Kyrian has some personality, but love interest, Amanda, isn’t quite as exciting. She wants to be boring and succeeds as she never develops into anything more than cardboard. Join the ladies as they discuss consent (again), dramatic exits in body bags, magic vaginas that can heal extreme trauma, and Barbies used as murder weapons.

Meet Your Destroyer

In our fourth episode, the leading ladies devour a dragon tale that’s two stories. The first story deals with a warrior woman named Annwyl, who is trying to rescue her lands from her brother with the help of Fearghus, a dragon who helps improve her fighting skills. Is he hot? Of course he is. The second deals with Fearghus’ parents’ romance, & was the most consensual story so far. Join our heroines as they discuss the importance of safe words, friendship vs lust, & the finer points of human-dragon mat

We All Know Why We're Here

In Bodice Ripping’s third episode, our heroines discuss Pleasure Unbound, a book with multiple sex scenes! The plot is predictable, but supports two main characters as they struggle with demon transformations, hidden bloodlines, past traumas, & trying to deny how hot the other is. With interesting conflicts & juxtapositions between the demon & human worlds, likeable leads, this book checked every box. Listen in as our ladies discuss playing doctor, demon semen, & the sweet benefits of eating pineapple.

The Kilt Rises

Bodice Ripping’s second episode, discusses Suzanne Enoch’s Some Like it Scot, the fourth novel in her Scandalous Highlanders series. A traditional Regency Era “Bodice Ripper,” the book had little in the way of plot, but more than enough descriptions of muscles, longing looks between main characters, & confusion in pronunciation when reading the written-in Scottish accents. Listen as Alli, Gina, Lauren, & Rachel discuss antiquated gender dynamics, horrifying historical birth control, & of course, kil

Zero to Sixty

In their debut episode, the four heroines of Bodice Ripping discuss the first book of Karen Marie Moning’s Fever series, Darkfever. This supernatural romance seems to be “zero to sixty,” main characters brood for long periods of time before springing to action, Fae monsters show up after pages of inactivity, & there is surprisingly little physical romance for a romance novel. However, Darkfever has an interesting story & mythology to compensate, & the female lead is definitely one of the high points.
