Now more than ever we need to focus on outcomes, the benefits we provide and the environments that we set. The human centred approach is a common theme. We have fantastic opportunity to support these changes and address the challenges that are ahead of us. Over the last 20 years sustainability has been a massive driver for developments in building services engineering, in Australia this has been, at least in part, driven by the Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA) and their Green Star tools. As we move towards a zero carbon future we will increasingly rely on how to assess building sustainability and how we can support those that will create this change. This month Talking Buildings sits down with Romilly Madew of the GBCA to discuss what drives her focus on sustainability, what the future holds as she moves into her new role at Infrastructure Australia and what advice she would give to the next generation of sustainability professionals. The Grenfell Tower disaster triggered a wide-ranging review of building and fire engineering safety around the world. How could such a devastating blaze happen? Could it happen again and what are the lessons learnt from this disaster? Join us in conversation with Hywel Davies, Technical Director of CIBSE, who has been closely involved in the industry response to the Grenfell Tower disaster. He is also involved in the government review of building regulations and fire safety. Hywel joined us whilst he was on his whistle stop tour of CIBSE Australia and New Zealand region for the Anatomy of the Smart Building Seminar Series, including pit stops in Sydney, Adelaide and Brisbane where he presented on the lessons learnt from Grenfell Tower disaster.
