Increasingly, families face stark choices when it comes to finding support for their loved ones. Adults managing care for their parents reduce their work hours, or leave work altogether, because they cannot find professional caregivers. Paraprofessional Healthcare Institute (PHI) President Jodi M. Sturgeon says, "Today, the number one challenge is finding and keeping direct care workers". Our special guest, Robert Espinoza helps us tackle the question of the caregiving crisis in America. Robert is the Vice President of Policy at PHI, where he oversees its national policy advocacy, research, and strategic communications division. In 2015, Robert was appointed by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services to its Advisory Panel on Outreach and Education, as well as by the National Academy of Medicine to its Forum on Aging, Disability and Independence. How to find Joy in Aging

This week, we’re discussing how to find joy and meaning as we grow older. Our guest, Dr Margaret Rutherford says, “Many articles that focus on living well in midlife preach the importance of keeping the “oomph” in your step. They feature people who have changed careers from stock broker to sculptor at 50, walked the Appalachian trail at 60, or learned how to skydive at 70.” The message is clear. “Don’t allow your age to limit your potential.” We baby boomers have not been rule-bound by much, so it seems natural that we would be challenging the stereotype of “older people.” But what about the energy involved in maintaining your joy in life, when you’re experiencing natural losses from growing older? What about the courage to confront apathy, and to keep caring about what is going on around you? Some big questions that Dr. Rutherford is here to help us uncover.
