WSND Presents: The Cask of Amontillado

Performed by South Bend-area high school students and directed by two Film, Television, and Theater students at the University of Notre Dame. WSND-FM is proud to present this live recording of their performance of Edgar Allen Poe's "The Cask of Amontillado," which took place on October 3rd, 2010, in 140 DeBartolo Hall on the campus of Notre Dame. It was presented in conjunction with the National Endowment for the Arts' "Big Read Program," the University of Notre Dame, and St. Joseph County Public Libraries.

Inspired by the words of Pope Benedict XVI during his visit to the US last year, the Notre Dame Center for Ethics and Culture focused its annual conference on "The Summons of Freedom: Virtue, Sacrifice, and the Common Good." In Episode 5, WSND News features some of the speakers from the conference, including Michael Novak, Rick Garnett, Alice von Hildebrand, and Frank Beckwith, and talks to them about a wide array of topics.

In honor of all those who served, WSND-FM offers a special tribute, originally broadcast at 11:00 a.m. on November 11, 2009, to those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for their country by reading "In Flanders Fields," by Canadian Lieutenant Colonel John McRae, and playing Taps. Information about the poem "In Flanders Fields" and its relation to the Veterans Day holiday can be found on the Web site of Arlington National Cemetery.
