Study Support: The Power of Collaboration

Our guest for this week is David Andre Botha. David is a Durban born South African who recently qualified as a Chartered Accountant and completed his studies while working and studying. I chat to Dave about his trials in full-time studying and how failing forced him into part-time studies. We look at David’s eureka year. The year after his gut-punching failure where he took on one of the toughest courses in the world, the famed postgraduate in advanced accounting sciences. He completed the course at Monash University South Africa through the brilliant CA Connect program. We look at the tips, strategies, mindsets, as well as the attitudes that got Dave not only through the yearbut into the top 10% of the successful candidate. Dave is admittedly not an academic, so to go from failure to success required a n 180-degree change in the way he was doing things. We look at the moments that forced the change, how he embraced the change, and how that change has directed his course since.

Study Support: Changing Your Ways

Change is difficult for all of us; it requires us to not only change our mindset, but to action conscious choices that push us from our comfort zones and into a period of growth. Ever heard of growing pains? If you want to grow and change, you need to understand that it’s going to hurt. Even if you are passionate about what you’re doing, the time will come when pushing to the next level will take it out of you. We see this in athletes who push until they bleed or pass out at the end of a race. Yet we don’t treat an educational change with the same level of glory. True knowledge is growth, and it is a growth that leads to freedom, the only true freedom – that of the mind. Welcome to the StudyMapp Podcast Show. This week I chat to Di Di Sethema. Di Di is in fight mode, and is going for her 6th attempt at her honors degree in accounting. Di Di is a self confessed failure specialist and intimately understands the pain that accompanies it. Di is a perfectionist, and cannot let go of ...

Study Support: Setting Off

[Sound Effect] So if you’re studying this year, part time, or full time – remember that the process of learning is the same, there are just certain things you need to do differently. But that’s why we’re here, you’re not alone, so without further ado, here are the ramblings of your eccentric host. So it’s a new year, a new start – whether you’re repeating a year, starting a fresh, or moving onto the next stage of your education… You want to do things better, you want to be more dedicated, more engaged, hungrier than ever before. You want to complete this year well, to get yourself closer to that intellectual and financial freedom you’ve dreamt of. This hunger is good, but is it sustainable? New year’s resolutions are already flopping all around us, the attitude to changing our ways alrea...
