Episode 11 - Fail Friday

Fail FridayMy parenting fail this week is getting out of our regular routine. It's that time of year again - family day and a week off of school for the kiddos. And we have fallen slightly out of routine this week.As a busy mom, with a full-time job and a private practice on the side, in addition to studying for exams and taking on some self-development ventures, life is hectic!I like to take advantage of every waking hour I can, and while I had a few days off of my regular job, I spent some much needed time catching up on all of the other things going on in my life, with a few days of awesome quality time with the kids...But, lack of structure to the day equals a lack of routine. And I've sadly fallen behind in this area this week.Mornings have been a bit lazier. Screen time has been a bit more. And all day free-play time has the kids annoyed at having to leave for an hour here or there to run errands or do activities or get to appointments. But... I'm okay with it. Sometimes, it's ...

Episode 10 - Thankful Thursday

Thankful ThursdayBe thankful for opportunities to learn and grow. There will always be people around you who are more knowledgeable, more experienced, and have a recipe for success in different areas of life.Whether you are struggling in your career, with your children, in relationships, or in other areas of life, looking to those with knowledge and expertise can be a short-track to success.Over the years, I have been blessed to have several mentors in my life who I have reached out to for guidance and expertise.I believe you can approach feedback in one of two ways. You can either resist it, or you can welcome it.When you resist feedback, you become closed to understanding the perspectives of others who may have a lot to add to your own life, career, and relationships. On the other hand, when you welcome feedback, you openly accept guidance, and develop further and more quickly in your career, parenting role, or other areas of your life. Not all feedback is equal, however, all feedbac...

Episode 9 - Wellness Wednesday

Wellness Wednesday⠀⠀Silence. Ahhhhh.... how lovely it is.And yet, the moment we have the slightest bit of silence we are reaching for our phones or skimming emails or thinking about the never-ending list of to-do’s that we have as busy parents.⠀⠀This week’s Wellness Wednesday tip is to learn to be with yourself in silence.⠀⠀But what does that mean? It can be many different things.⠀⠀- meditation- deep breathing- prayer- reflection- gratitude⠀⠀Whatever resonates most with you, is how you can practice silence.⠀⠀At the very core, silence simply means sitting with yourself, with no distractions, and allowing yourself time and space to simply be at peace.⠀⠀While this can be challenging, especially at first, there are so many benefits to taking even 5 minutes to be with yourself in silence each day.⠀⠀Silence is practiced by some of the busiest and most successful people in the world. And maybe I’m biased, but I think parents fit into this category.⠀⠀When you regularly ...

Episode 8 - Tantrum Tuesday

Tantrum Tuesday♀️⠀⠀I dislike anything of a particular genre of animation, games, toys, etc. And I don’t particularly love building.⠀⠀And yet, on my kitchen counter, stands a 900 piece model of Pikachu that my son and I put together over several days and weeks.⠀⠀Why? Because my son is obsessed with Pokémon, and even though this was on the top of his list of gifts he was hoping to get for Christmas this year, he doesn’t particularly enjoy putting together LEGO sets⠀⠀He loves building - he’d just rather do it his own way. So instead, we did it together.⠀⠀If you are struggling with your child’s behaviour, one of the most impactful things that you can do is to simply take 5 minutes out of your day to connect with your child doing the things THEY love to do.⠀⠀For most kids, this probably includes a long list of watching youtubers, and playing video games, making slime, battling with Pokémon cards or Beyblades, or playing with Shopkins or Grosseries or Squishees, or wha...

Episode 7 - Motivation Monday

Motivation Monday️⠀⠀The quote of the week is brought to you by Albert Einstein, who said “you never fail until you stop trying”.⠀⠀So often, when parents experience challenging behaviours or other problems with their children, they see themselves as failing in their parenting role.⠀⠀This could not be further from the truth, especially for those parents who continue trying to help their children and themselves, even when they feel like they have lost all hope.⠀⠀When you buy parenting books, reach out to family and friends for guidance, take parenting courses, or seek out therapy, it is not because you are failing as a parent. It is because you have chosen to never give up.⠀⠀So instead of shrinking down and feeling like a failure, hold your head up high and buy that book, be vulnerable with those you can trust, eagerly take those parenting classes, and if you need to, seek out professional support.⠀⠀Whatever you do, do it knowing that you’re not failing.⠀⠀You’re seek...

Episode 6 - Fail Friday

Fail Friday️⠀⠀This week, my parenting fails have been at a relative minimum, but I have totally failed at mornings.⠀⠀Okay, so maybe not TOTALLY...⠀⠀I’ve still managed to follow my own wellness Wednesday advice and get up before I absolutely needed to. I’ve gotten myself and the kids ready and out the door on time, with everything we need for the day.⠀⠀Yet I’m still starting my day kicking myself for not getting in my full morning workout (or any of it, some days!) and feeling rushed.⠀⠀I know to take care of my kids, I have to take care of myself first, but as a busy mom, it’s super tough to make self-care a priority!⠀⠀So what’s a mom to do? I could just say, “Hey I failed. I don’t have time for this. I’m not a morning person. Guess the gym life’s not for me.”⠀⠀But that wouldn’t do me or my kids any good. So now what?⠀⠀Be honest with myself and reprioritize.⠀⠀If I’m not taking care of myself first, I can’t be the best mom for my kiddos.⠀⠀And for me, ...

Thankful Thursday⠀⠀Be thankful for family, friends, partners, peers, and mentors who are your biggest fans.⠀⠀These are the people who support you in many ways through the good times and bad.⠀⠀They guide you toward strength, positivity, and greatness when you need it the most.⠀⠀To my parents, who raised me to believe in my own capability, strength, and courage, and to my children who have taught me the true meaning of unconditional love, and push me every day to become the best woman and mother I can possibly be: Thank you.⠀⠀Think about the people in your own life who have supported and guided you over the years.⠀⠀Remember through the tough times to be grateful to have these people in your life - to listen, to lean on, to give you feedback or advice.⠀⠀Let them know today how much they mean to you

Wellness Wednesday⠀⠀WAKE UP!! Hurry up! Get dressed! Brush your teeth! Let’s go! Where are your pants?! Come on! Get your shoes on! We’re going to be late!!⠀⠀Sound familiar? Anybody else’s mornings go something like this?♀️⠀⠀Chances are, if you’re a sleep-till-the-very-last-possible-second kind of person, you’re probably running around like a chicken with your head cut off to get everyone else (and yourself) ready and going for the day.⠀⠀Your Wellness Wednesday tip of the week is to set your alarm clock for an hour before you absolutely have to get out of bed.⠀⠀Don’t hit snooze. Don’t just lay there. Get up. Get out of bed. And get your morning started.⠀⠀There are a million things you can do with this extra time (and those will be wellness Wednesday tips for another time), but whatever you choose to do, getting up an hour earlier than you need to to get everyone else ready for the day will allow you time to start your day on your terms.⠀⠀And who wouldn’t bene...

Tantrum Tuesday♀️⠀⠀You have a million things to do, but your little one is LOSING HER MIND over the smallest thing - a lost stuffy, having to use the red cup instead of the pink one, being forced to wear pants instead of the pretty princess dress, or having to buy a cool new toy for her friend’s birthday party instead of for herself.⠀⠀Yes, it’s an insignificant moment that she’ll forget about by tomorrow, and you’ve got your own actual problems to deal with, but to her, these ARE big problems.⠀⠀Try to remember in those moments when you want her to just get over it already, that this is a big deal to her.⠀⠀If you can respond with empathy and compassion, she will see you as the person she can go to for understanding and support for the things that matter to her the most.⠀⠀And while right now, those things may all be small problems in your eyes, one day, she will have big problems.⠀⠀Let her know she can turn to you for the small stuff now, and she will know she can op...

Motivation Monday️⠀⠀"The way we talk to our children becomes their inner voice" by Peggy O'MaraThis quote is so true! The way you talk to your child, is the way they will talk to and about themselves.⠀⠀Send the message - with your words, tone of voice, and body language - that your child is worthy of unconditional love and respect.⠀⠀That they are strong, courageous, and competent.⠀⠀That they need not be perfect, that they will make mistakes, they will fail, and they can find a way to pick themselves back up again.⠀⠀That you will be there to listen, to nurture, and to support.⠀⠀And when you can’t be there to guide them, your child’s inner voice will remind them: “you are worthy of love and respect”, “you are safe”, “you don’t have to be perfect”, “you can and will get through this”, and “you always have someone to lean on and help you”.
