Halloween Special: The Fall of the House of Usher

It’s time for the Halloween spooky special! Every year we read one of literature’s great scary classics (except for when we do Goosebumps) and this year it’s a doozy - a readthrough and discussion of Edgar Allen Poe’s The Fall of the House of Usher. As always we’ll be digging into the huge and important questions - was this the first ever haunted house? Why not just play Wonderwall? Is that really the best way of storing gunpowder? And perhaps above all, where did the armour come from? As always, let us know what you think on Twitter @sharkliveroil, and by email at sharkliveroilpodcast@gmail.com.

Halloween Special: The Fall of the House of Usher

Game of Thrones S8E6: The Iron Throne

Did you hate it? Did you love it? Whatever you thought, it’s the END OF THE SONG OF ICE AND FIRE, and we’re sprinting through the finish line with a degree of spriteliness that is WHOLLY INAPPROPRIATE to the ending of the story. But what can you do? Shark’s gonna Shark. This final episode of our coverage features the great unanswerable questions: is war ever justified? Are dragons all secretly anti-monarchy? And above all, what was wrong with the Dothraki B-Team’s satnav? As always, let us know what you think at sharkliveroilpodcast@gmail.com, on Twitter @sharkliveroil, and let us know what you think we should cover next!

Game of Thrones S8E6: The Iron Throne

Game of Thrones S8E5: The Bells

We may as well nail our colours to the mast straight away with this one.. we liked it. Sure, there were a few issues with how we got to this point, which meant one or two of the character moments may have not quite been what they could have been, but take a step back and leave your predictions at the door and this is one pretty awesome episode of television. We explain why we liked it while re-living some of the most controversial moments of the series. We also round the cast off with your feedback and our new fan theory for how Bronze Yohn Royce is now destined for the Iron Throne. sharkliveroilpodcast@gmail.comis where you can find us if you want to get in touch.

Game of Thrones S8E4: The Last of the Starks

We’re watching the last season of Game of Thrones so we can get some narrative closure on the series, and it’s all controversy, all the time this week. We’re going through Episode 4 of Game of Thrones’ eighth season, which is called The Last of The Starks, which does not contain anything you might be expecting: INCLUDING the setup for the comedy spinoffs we’re all begging for: Tormund and Brienne star in ‘Till Death Us Do Part’ with knives, AND/OR Tormund and Ghost star in Turner and Hooch: Beyond the Wall! Missed opportunities all. As ever, get in touch through sharkliveroilpodcast@gmail.com, facebook.com/sharkliveroil, or @sharkliveroil on Twitter, with your theories, irritations, furies and character crushes, and we’ll be reading them out next time!

Game of Thrones S8E4: The Last of the Starks

Game Of Thrones S8E3: The Long Night

Matt and Dave talk you through the biggest battle yet on Game of Thrones, an episode that ended up somewhere between a thrilling rollercoaster ride and a loud, confusing trundle through a ghost train. We loved so much about this episode - the Dothraki charge, the Unsullied last stand, Beric and Jorah's ends and Arya's injury time winner. We had problems with how dark some of it was, how so many of our beloved characters improbably survived and.. most important of all.. where in the seven hells was zombie Bronze Yohn and his beautiful breastplate? Oh, and pour one out for fan favourite Qhono. We literally barely knew ye. sharkliveroilpodcast@gmail.com is the place to send your feedback.

Game of Thrones S8E2: A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms

We’re getting our Song of Ice and Fire fix from the TV, and this week, it’s episode 2 of the final series of Game of Thrones: A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. It’s a tense one, and perhaps the most unsettling thing is that an awful lot of characters have suspiciously complete character arcs. Grey Worm is even talking about how he’s one last job from retirement. It’s all set-up, and it’s all rich stuff - let us know what you thought of it @sharkliveroil on Twitter and sharkliveroilpodcast@gmail.com. And remember: when you play the Game of Thrones, you win, or you get eaten by the malevolently resurrected wight of your former loved ones. See you next week!

Lord of the Flies Part 3 - Make Me Look Impressive, Dammit

We read the classics with a sideways view, and today we’re reading from ’Shadows and Tall Trees' to ‘A View to a Death’ in William Golding’s classic ‘Lord of the Flies’. We’ll level with you: it gets dark. And it’s a masterpiece. As always, get in touch with your thoughts: @sharkliveroil on Twitter or sharkliveroilpodcast@gmail.com.

Lord of the Flies Part 2 - A Bad Slag In The Jungle

It's part 2 of our read through of The Lord Of The Flies by William Golding. Ralph discovers that being the only adult on an island of semi-feral children isn't much fun, Piggy loses a lens and Jack kills a pig. Oh, and we meet the breakout star of Lord of the Flies, littleun Phil. Who may or may not be bald. And may or may not be a tiny version of Phil Mitchell. And may or may not have seen a "bad slag" wandering about in the jungle. It's all getting a bit crazy. If you're at such a loose end that you're reading the show notes, why not leave us a review on itunes? It'd really help. Or send your feedback to sharkliveroil@gmail.comand we'll read it out on the podcast.
