The I Am Independent Podcast - Episode 19 - Best Practice and Etiquette for the Independent Artist

How do you best approach a producer you want to work with? What's the best way to let a videographer know you have a very small budget? Will someone want to work with me if I'm only just starting out? These are some of the frequently asked questions that come our way so if you've asked them, you're not alone. Does it matter who and how you ask someone to collaborate on your music project?... the short answer is yes! It's important to create a good impression from the start and to always treat people with respect and kindness and you may not only be surprised at their response, it might turn out to be the start of a long and reoccurring relationship. Manners go a long way in life and it's no different in the music industry despite there being many people with a distinct lack of them - just don't let that be you! In this week's episode we offer some insights we've picked up along the way and also there's some great advice and tips from professional producers, videographers, musicians and artists. Let us know your experiences of reaching out and working with other creatives. What worked and what didn't?

The I Am Independent Podcast - Episode 17 - Music, Mental Health & Wellbeing

This episode exists, not just because it was mental health awareness week recently, but because our mental health is important everyday. The challenges facing music artists are unique, and are often compounded when artists are journeying independently. In recent years, those who have great visibility (predominantly signed artists), who have struggled in this area, have helped to bring this issue to the foreground. This is helpful, but in this episode we would like to speak directly to the independent artist, and hopefully provide a little encouragement and a few tips on maintaining our wellbeing as we build our careers in this business.
