Bob And Barn's Fresh Music For 'MediEvil' Re-Release

The darkly funny MediEvil game series was one of the most beloved of the late 1990s. The game's story follows a hapless hero, Sir Dan Fortescue, as he battles an evil sorcerer, Zarok, for control of the kingdom of Gallowmere. Twenty years later, Sony has dusted off the classic with new graphics and updated gameplay, and music from the original soundtrack composers, Paul Arnold and Andrew Barnabas, known as Bob and Barn. They freshened up the original music they composed for MediEvil, and added

Justin E. Bell Brings The Wonder Of Space To His Soundtrack For 'The Outer Worlds'

The Outer Worlds , from Obsidian Entertainment, lets players choose their own adventure on hostile planets, and solve problems (or make new ones) for the settlers there. Composer Justin E. Bell tells me that his soundtrack is filled with the wonder of space exploration, and inspired by the character of the planets and strange creatures you encounter in the game. Justin balanced the different musical styles of ambient background music, along with the lonesome West style of music from the Cohen

Mike Salvatori And Skye Lewin's Nightmare-Inducing Soundtrack For 'Destiny 2: Shadowkeep'

Bungie's latest Desiny 2 expansion, Shadowkeep , brings Guardians back to the Moon, only to discover that it's plagued by terrifying living nightmares, and long-vanquished enemies that need to be conquered again. Composers Mike Salvatori and Skye Lewin told me that not only did they write some of the most terrifying music ever for Destiny , but they blended in subtle hints of sorrow and brash heroic moments as well. Guardians are called back to the Moon to assist Eris Morne, one of the most

Dale North's Emotionally Rich Music For 'The Long Return'

In The Long Return , created by Max Nielsen, a young orphaned lion cub is retracing the last journey he made with his mother. Dale North composed the soundtrack, and he told me it was some of the most emotionally satisfying music he's written in a long time. Dale says the opportunity to write the score for The Long Return came at a busy time, but he was so taken by the story of the young cub, and the emotions he felt thinking about how the cub's mother is with him in spirit, that writing the

Petri Alanko Finds Music In An Espresso Machine And Screeching Brakes For 'Control'

As soon as composer Petri Alanko heard about Remedy Entertainment's paranormal thriller, Control , he knew he had to write the music for it! Petri was intrigued by the story of a seemingly-normal woman, Jesse Faden, who arrives at the well-hidden Federal Bureau of Control, looking for answers to her brother's disappearence. All is not as it seems, and Petri created a soundtrack that also isn't what it seems, including samples of his espresso machine and a friend's screeching brakes. Petri says

Nainita Desai's Honest Soundtrack For 'Telling Lies'

Nainita Desai's chamber orchestra soundtrack for Telling Lies by director Sam Barlow is pretty much the only honest thing in this intriguing live-action thriller. The player has access to a stolen hard drive to view videos of conversations with each of the four main characters, all of whom are hiding something. Nainita says working with Sam was an incredible experience because she was able to help flesh out each character's personality with her music, even before Sam had cast the actors. Nainita

Tom Salta's Perfect Throwback '80s Music For 'Wolfenstein: Youngblood'

The first time Tom Salta heard a synthesizer in the early 1980s he was hooked on the sound, so composing music for Wolfenstein: Youngblood by Machine Games was a dream project with a chance to recreate that vibe. Tom only used sounds and samples that were available in the 1980s to to create a pitch-perfect accompaniment to a story that follows the twin daughters of William Blazkowicz as they try to find out how he disappeared. Tom's been collecting keyboards and equipment since he was a teenager

Austin Wintory: Following 'Erica's' Every Move With Music

Austin Wintory loves a challenge! But he had no idea the level of granular music adaptations he'd have to write to keep his music as seamless as the action in the new full-motion video game Erica . Flavourworks, the studio behind Erica , gives the player interactive opportunities every 15-20 seconds, and the possibility of monumentally changing Erica 's story, which meant Austin had to write many different versions of the same cue to keep up with the action of this intriguing thriller.
