Say Fore for the Myrtle Beach World Amateur

Sports travel can be a major source of revenue for travel agents. Some agencies specialize in sending their clients to the major events that take place around the world — such as the Olympics, Soccer’s World Cup or The Masters golf tournament in Augusta Georgia. Others are sending professional and non-professional teams to the places where they compete for prizes large and small. In this issue, Voices of Travel, host Ron Pradinuk takes readers on a tour of a different sporting event which may be a boon for travel agents. It’s the Myrtle Beach World Amateur handicap tournament where, as tournament director Scott Tomesello says: “The everyday golfer can participate and feel like a tour player over 72 holes, just like a PGA Tour event. It is golf by morning and party by night in the golf capital of the world. What more could you ask for?” It is promoted as the largest and most fun golf tournament on the planet. It is played on 60 of Myrtle Beach’s best courses. And the 19th hole ...

In Flanders’ fields the poppies blow…These words have been seared into the minds of Canadians and others of the free world as a part of our annual remembrance of those who have lost lives during war years. The Flanders area (as in province or state) today is progressive and vibrant, with some of the most interesting cities in Europe to visit. Antwerp, Bruges, Brussels, Ghent, Leuven and Mechelen all are interesting places on their own, with some having been the backdrop for filming exceptional movies. We also appreciate the fact that we have access to Cuba’s multiple tourist destinations from most major Canadian gates. And Transat has been the acknowledged leader in taking Canadians from these gateways to locations, in no small part because of the many quality options they offer. Travelling with family? Transat has so many programs children love, with care options for the youngest and fun opportunities for the older teenagers. Want upscale? Canadians find it in their Luxury Collections. And if you want to travel alone without those very expensive single supplements, Transat has taken care of that as well. While the Cuban vacation will be great, getting there and back is part of the journey. Air Transat has been voted the best leisure airline in the world. Berkeley & Oakland

Berkeley and Oakland in the Bay area of California may be side-by-side cities, but their history and personalities are so different from each other that at times one might not think they are in the same US state. Oakland is the big city, with all the traits of an urban centre. At its heart Berkeley, with a dramatically smaller population, is a University town. The influence of young people is felt everywhere, while Oakland is much more of a working class industrial city. But both have exceptional restaurants, interesting attractions, and parks with views that suggest both have many lifestyle benefits for living there. In this Voices of Travel Podcast, host Ron Pradinuk, explores both cities and provide reasons why both can so successfully built into one great vacation. Pradinuk will revisit the Berkeley free speech movement of the 1960’s and talk about some of the waterside attractions that make Oakland such a unique big city. So if you want to find out more about Berkely and Oakla...

Marvellous Myrtle Beach

Every now and then there is a destination that seems to have something for visitors of all ages. In this week’s Voices of Travel podcast, host Ron Pradinuk thinks he has found one of those places in Myrtle Beach South Carolina. It is a family destination with big attractions like the Medieval Times Dinner Theatre, excellent water parks, a giant SkyWheel on the beach which seems to go on forever, not to mention every possible brand of pancake house which seem to pop up on every corner. While it hosts the world’s largest amateur handicap golf tournament at the end of August each year, it is its 90 golf tracks that attract groups and couples from spring until deep into fall. Its seafood restaurants are renowned, and it offers accommodation options for every budget and style of traveller, and its shopping areas are often tied to family attractions as well. The connected communities of Greater Myrtle Beach are both different and unique. And if art is on your agenda, the sculptures at B...

In this week’s issue of Canadian Travel Press, Voices of Travel host, Ron Pradinuk talks with Anna Jimenez Oliveras, market manager for US and Canada for Ocean Hotels by H10, and Susan Kooiman, senior business development representative of Transat Tours Canada. Together, they talk about the unique and close relationship the two companies have – and what it means for travel agents and their clients. Time for a check up

Earlier this year, the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care proposed an amendment to Ontario’s out-of-country medical coverage. If passed this amendment would put an end to OHIP’s coverage of emergency services for Ontarians travelling outside of Canada. With health care costs under the microscope across Canada, it seem likely that other provincial jurisdictions could follow Ontario’s lead. In this issue of Canadian Travel Press, Voices of Travel host, Ron Pradinuk talks with Will McAleer, the executive director of the Travel Health Insurance Association of Canada (THIA). McAleer is an assistance veteran – as well as being the president of World Travel Protection Canada and vice-chairman of the Supervisory Board of the International Assistance Group (IAG). While the conversation focused on how the amendment would impact Ontario travellers, Pradinuk also probed deeper into how travel clients should rely on travel agents – and equally importantly how travel agents must b...

Palladium makes family fun part of the experience

Finding the best property for family vacations can sometimes pose a dilemma for travel agents. Parents want to have some free time on their own, while active children can keep them running for the entire duration of the holiday. The decision of where to stay becomes especially important – and sometimes critical, if there are serious food allergies that have to be contended with – or if one of the children has Autism. And in that respect, the Palladium Hotel Group has led the way in making sure that its resorts are created for the best family holidays possible. In this week’s Voices of Travel, host Ron Pradinuk talks with Sonia Casaubon, Palladium’s business Development for Canada. You’ll hear how some of their properties have dealt with these issues – but more importantly you’ll learn how their Kid’s Clubs, iconic Raggs characters and family programs – which allow parents to enjoy time out while Palladium trained staff take care of their children – have made the family vac...
