Sunday Podcast & Facebook Live! - July 8, 2018

This is the last Sunday of our Pentecost Worship Series, "The Unexpected Gifts of the Spirit." The series has investigated the birth of the ancient church, drawing parallels to the same issues facing HTCC. It has been grounded in Paul's letter to the church in Rome and his second letter to the Corinthians. It is also informed by a fantastic book study called Gifts of the Dark Wood by Eric Elnes.Worship Theme: "The Gift of Misfits"Sacred Story: 2 Corinthians 12:2-10Overview: Our journey into the Dark Woods initially begins as individuals when we awaken to our life's path. However, it's easy to get lost without the aid of companions. And it is often through these companions that we receive our clearest glimpses of ourselves and Heaven. Making the journey with a few wise companions on your side can keep you from getting lost and make the journey less lonely, even fun. A community of Misfits

Sunday Podcast & Facebook Live! - July 1, 2018

Pride artificially inflates our self-image. Shame artificially deflates it. Both tend to set us on dead-end paths because they cause us to willingly obstruct our connection to God. Ironically, both pride and shame tend to fabricate an image or ourselves that is ultimately too small to live within. However, Humility is what keeps us grounded. Humility is living by God's vision of you, not your own. The Gift of Disappearing helps us maintain a healthy distance from self-conceptions that are built on a grand house of cards or upon a meager image pulled from the swamps of shame. Facebook Live! video at www.facebook.com/htccnashvilleThe Gift of Temptation - Finding and following your path is an ongoing process that tends to take shape, bit by bit, over many years, often by trial and error. It evolves, requiring an ongoing conversation between your body, soul, community of friends, loved ones, those you serve, and the Spirit to discern where it lies at any particular moment. Along the way, the temptation to do the wrong good is one of the greatest gifts you can receive, as it continually challenges you to discern between the good you are called to do and the good you are specifically not called to do. More often than not, your intuition--your deep listening to the voice of the Spirit--is a better judge than your logic, reason, or strategic ability. Thus, the gift of temptation also refines your listening ability like no other--often through suffering the consequen

Sunday Podcast & Facebook Live! - June 17, 2018

The "Gift of Getting Lost" reminds us that people who find and live into their calling in life rarely do so without getting lost first. Our journey through life is never a straight one. The path zigzags. And at each point where our journey needs to make a turn, we start to feel increasingly lost. This feeling of being lost prompts us to pay more attention to the signals that the Holy Spirits is sending us. Sometimes these signals may seem supernatural in experience, but more often they will come in subtle ways; through gut hunches, intuitions, moments of silence, shifts in awareness, multiple coincidences, even promptings from friends that we disregard. We will catch onto these signals...provided that we're paying attention.

Sunday Podcast & Facebook Live! - June 10, 2018

Our Pentecost Worship Series investigates the birth of the ancient church, and draws parallels to the same issues facing our church. The worship series titled,"The Unexpected Gifts of the Spirit"is grounded in Paul's letter to the church in Rome and his second letter to the Corinthians. It is also informed by a fantastic book study called Gifts of the Dark Woodby Eric Elnes. The series explores those places in our lives framed by uncertainty, emptiness, getting lost, sudden insight, temptation, disappearing (withdrawal), and being misfit (not fitting in). It's about finding your place in the world at the very point where you feel furthest from it. Something that the early church most definitely struggled with. You won't want to miss our kick off service, Pentecost Sunday, when we will be celebrating the birth of the Church!

Sunday Podcast & Facebook Live! - June 3, 2018

This Sunday's sermon theme was "The Gift of Emptiness"which encouraged us to seek and experience the "wholly otherness" of God before we can encounter God within us. It's tough to face our inner emptiness. Imagine if you were free--not free of your faults, but free from your fearof them. What did Jesus mean when he said, "Whoever tries to preserve their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life will preserve it?"Luke 17:33 Living a full life means letting go of your need for survival, rightness, and perfection. By embracing our humilitywe live into our fullest humanity. We experience the paradox of encountering God's fullness within our emptiness.
