Living in the Present Moment with Penny Cohen, LCSW

The past is history The future a mystery All we have is NOW! The NOW, The Present Moment, Being in the Moment, Being Present, FLOW, are just a few examples of how to describe this phenomenon. The importance of this subject cannot be adequately measured. Living in the NOW is being in the FLOW, where ideas, opportunities and people come into our lives and we live life with more ease and joy. Mindfulness and meditation have been touted as two methods for staying in the present moment. However, when the mind works overtime our thoughts tend to take us to the past to languish in sorrow and regret or to a fearful future resulting all too often in sadness and a constricted heart. My guest, Penny Cohen and I will discuss not only thebenefits of living in the NOW,but also practical tools to help keep us there and also why the present moment enables us to realize all the benefits that life can offer. Your calls, questions and comments are always welcome. Call-in number: (646) 716-8352

Revenge: Is It Always Sweet? With Penny Cohen, LCSW

REVENGE: IS IT ALWAYS SWEET? with PENNY COHEN, LCSW The Old Testament of the Jewish bible which also forms the first 39 books in most Christian Bibles, proclaims an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth. My guest, Penny Cohen and I will discuss the origin, meaning and ramifications of that dish which many claim is best served cold. You can find out more about my guest at www.pennycohen.com.

Your Ego: Is It Always Bad and Can You Exist Without It? With Penny Cohen, LCSW

YOUR EGO: IS IT ALWAYS BAD AND CAN YOU EXIST WITHOUT IT? WITH PENNY COHEN, LCSW The term Ego is defined as follows: The “I” or self of any person; a person as thinking, feeling, and willing, and distinguishing itself from the selves of others and from objects of its thought. In psychoanalysis the part of the psychic apparatus that experiences and reacts to the outside world and thus mediates between the primitive drives of the id and the demands of the social and physical environment.Egotism, conceit, and self-importance. When we think of the Ego as bad we are clearly referring to third item on this list. So why are we so tied to that aspect of the term?

The Game of Life with Penny Cohen, LCSW

THE GAME OF LIFE w/ith PENNY COHEN, LCSW While it may perhaps sound like calling life a game is to trivialize it and to risk sounding callus and uncaring, this could not be further from the truth. We as humans play many types of games in life, some harmless and banal and some that can have serious and even fatal consequences. As we ascend the scale of more serious games we discover those with steeper and steeper costs. You risk injury in many sports and financial loss when indulging in games of chance. War, to examine an extreme example with fatal consequences, may at first be thought of as something else, but it is also comprised of all the elements of a game: rules, goals, strategy, chance, outcomes, gain and loss to name the most obvious ones. Then there is the mating game, one's career and that of survival for not only ourselves but for all the creatures that inhabit the earth.

Raising Children The Good, the Bad & the Ugly with Penny Cohen, LCSW

While there can never be any guaranteed outcomes especially when it comes to raising children, always considered one of life’s most challenging responsibilities, by learning some valuable insights a parent can certainly give him or herself some advantages as opposed to just learning by trial and error or just limiting themselves to doing what your parents did. In addition, we hope to add some interesting and perhaps even entertaining anecdotes from the many combined years that my guest and I have spent doing our part in raising our families, including our experiences with our grandchildren.

Relationships are very complex entities and there are many reasons why they fail. Whether the relationship is in business, a close friendship or a romantic one, including marriage, expectations are an important dynamic. Since relationships often end due to the dissatisfaction of one or both parties with the performance of the other, expectations are the key parameter. Another key reason romantic relationships fail is the inability of one or both parties to reach a stage of emotional intimacy. In the book “Games People Play,” by Dr. Eric Berne, the author describes different stages of the relationship of couples. The ultimate stage is that of emotional intimacy but unfortunately most couples never reach th...

It’s All One Thing with Penny Cohen, LCSW

IT’S ALL ONE THING:WHY THE “REAL” & SPIRITUAL REALMS TOGETHER DEFINE OUR WORLDLY EXPERIENCE with PENNY COHEN, LCSW According to Albert Einstein, “There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle.” We live in a world and universe that exists in an all inclusive context of duality which is dominated by Time and Space. And because this duality exists we often believe we need to choose between two opposing phenomena. Throughout my life, experience has shown me that rather than having to choose, it is better to strive to strike a balance between the two. In this regard, we will discuss how and why an individual can best utilize his or her spiritual senses in relation to their daily lives in order to maximize their ability to function at the highest level possible.
