About Us

Get Smart Radio/GSR is a project of Artists for Literacy, a non-profit dedicated to making information accessible to people of all education levels and backgrounds. Our shows are mostly recorded live with an audience. We're messy, authentic, and committed to digging into topics that delight us and or define us as a culture or as bizarre outcast individuals. It's all part of the mix. We started in San Franciso in 2007. In 2017 we went on the road as Arresting Knowledge - focusing on media and information overload.

Alison Trope Director of The Critical Media Project

Alison Trope, Ph.D speaks with Deborah Pardes / Arresting Knowledge about the focus of the Critical Media Project - which is part of Annenberg School for Communication & Journalism. She connects the dots between the media crisis of today (fake news, information overload) to a much larger context. Her perspective is so important because it proves that as a society - this is a systemic issue that needs to be addressed. She further emboldened us to continue our work. We're all in this together.

GSR Speaks With NAMLE's Michelle Ciulla Lipkin

Michelle Ciulla Lipkin is the ED of NAMLE - the National Association for Media Literacy Education. (NAMLE.NET) As Executive Director, Michelle has helped NAMLE grow to be the preeminent media literacy education association in the U.S. Our conversation focused on common misconceptions of media literacy, and the opportunities we have to amplify the message that informed skepticism is critical in today's media rich climate. (yeah...that was an understatement) Listen in!
