Midnight Thoughts: The Chain Breaks

"I fell without falling, I was somewhere else I always was, I was someone else I always was, but I was also still me." I passed out this Wednesday doing Bikram yoga. We were doing yoga in a 40 degree room, and as I followed the movements, the chain of who I thought I was melted away, and I became something else in a moment that felt like a lifetime. A lifetime that passed in less than 5 seconds. I didn't know who I was, what I was or where I was. It was a completely new sensation for me. I always try to keep track of the continuity of who I am, or what I am and where I was and where I'm going. Everyone has that chain of who they are in their heads in one way or another, the narrative, the pattern and the mental model they follow in there lives. Give anyone a series of completely random facts and they'll make a pattern out of it, a story, a chain. My chain of events collided with an old women a few days ago too. When good intentions followed were met by aggressive resistance. But all is well. I share those stories tonight on Midnight Wisdom.

I start this episode by randomly showing appreciation to my microphone and it all carried on from there. As much as we consume and as much as we use in our world today, we disregard how we couldn't do a lot of what we think is very normal for us without the things that let us do them to begin with. To take a good look at the items that we do have and ask ourselves, "what does this add to my life?" "What do I feel towards this?" and having the courage to "discard" it to create the space for something new, something richer. I continue talking about our ability to separate ourselves from the things around us to create our own individual identities. How we separated ourselves from the animals around us, animals we once were and animals that contribute to us being ourselves. How that separation happens as we grow older and distance ourselves from our ...
