Olympic Dreams Come True at the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon

This week on The Rundown [1:10] Maddy Kelly and Kate Van Buskirk take a deep dive into the 2019 Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon (STWM). We also bring you results from the Amsterdam Marathon, the Cape to Cabot 20K and Big's Backyard Ultra. Our guests this week are newly named Olympians and Canadian Marathon Champions Trevor Hofbauer and Dayna Pidhoresky [31:36]. Dayna and Trevor had remarkably similar storylines at this year’s STWM. Neither were favourites for the win, and they each ran nearly 7 minute PB’s to take the Canadian title and hit their Olympic qualifying marks. Both made big moves in the last 18 months, changing their training locations, coaches and lifestyles. And both came into this race as a last ditch attempt to prove to themselves and the nation that they belong on the world stage.

The Rundown Marathon Madness: Kipchoge Goes Sub-2, Kosgei Smashes the World Record!

Last weekend was arguably the most pivotal 2 days in marathoning history. Less than 48 hours later, Brigid Kosgei demolished the 16-year old women's world record by running 2:14:04. This week we dissect these races, plus bring you all the action from the trails and cross-country courses.

Lyndsay Tessier's War of Attrition in the World Championships Marathon

Lyndsay Tessier shocked the Canadian running community last month by placing 9th at the IAAF world Championships marathon. Lyndsay had never made a national team, she was ranked 34th in a field that included former Olympic champions, and she had to contend with unprecedented conditions. Not to mention that unlike her professional athlete competitors, she is a full-time teacher, and at age 41, she was one of the oldest women in the race. Today, almost exactly one year after she came on The Shakeout to talk about her 2018 Berlin Marathon breakthrough, Lyndsay takes us through her stunning result at her first ever World Championships. She also reflects on the incredible community of masters women who make up the majority of Canadian elite marathoners.
