Episode Nine: Busted Knees and CCs

In this episode of the podcast, I talk with June. I met June through WindSisters, a Facebook group for female riders. I was interested in talking with June to find out more about what inspired her to get her motorcycle license in her 60s. It may not come as a surprise that it followed a life changing event. An accident. But not her accident. I will let June tell you that story along with her favourite roads for riding in the Ottawa Valley area and why she left a little bit of her heart in Nova Scotia. You can find a photo of June and her ride on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram at /ThrottlePodcast.

Episode Eight: Destination 763

In this episode of the podcast, I talk with motorcycle racer Valerie Thompson. Valerie races one of America’s fastest BMW motorcycles and is often referred to as “America’s Queen of Speed”. On September 1, 2016 she earned the title of world’s fastest female motorcycle racer at the Bonneville Motorcycle Speed Trials. Her one measured mile average speed was an incredible 304 miles/hour riding the famous Denis Manning designed “7” Racing streamliner. That’s 489.66 km/h for my Canadian friends. Not only is Valerie an accomplished motorcycle racer, she’s kind, generous, and honest. We talk about learning from mistakes, taking chances, and the importance of believing in yourself. During our conversation she also shares some of the obstacles she’s encountered during her storied career. Oh, and the title of this episode will make sense once you listen to the podcast. Episode Seven: Building a Community

In this episode of the podcast, I talk with Lisa. Lisa is an accomplished rider living in London, Ontario. She tours across the US and Canada on her Road King and has created a community of female riders called biker bitches unite. The group meets in a new city each year and travels the area together, sharing their love of motorcycles, stories of their adventures, and probably more than a few laughs. I really appreciate people who have a passion, share it with others, and create a unique community around that passion. My conversation with Lisa has inspired me. She's adventurous in a way that I hope to be one day. You can find a photo of Lisa and her Road King on Facebook at /throttlepodcast.

Episode Six: Bali, Bikes, and Freedom

In this episode of the podcast, I talk with Natalie about life and riding in Bali. Natalie currently lives and works in Bali. She’s a professional writer, spiritual warrior, and a global citizen. She’s also one of the bravest and most compassionate people I know. I met Natalie through her dad when she was still living in Canada. He owns a company that I worked for a few years ago. He asked her to come into the office to share her writing expertise. Now, generally when the boss asks one of his ids to come into the office, employees collectively rolls their eyes. Natalie walked into the room and I almost instantly fell in love with her. She’s calm, engaging, open and here’s the most important part…great at what she does. An hour later we were exchanging hugs goodbye with the promise that we would get together again soon…outside of work. And we did. Flash forward years later and we’re great friends. I’m so lucky to have her in my life. You can find a photo of Natalie and her ri...

Episode Four: Poutine, Cow Patties, and Gasoline

In this episode of the podcast, I talk with Father Pierre about his early bikes, the riding community, and why Uncle Bobby isn’t likely the best riding instructor. He has a lot of interesting observations about the riding community and some great advice about bikes. He also reads me a short verse at the end about friends vs. riders. If you’re a rider, you might relate to it.
