About Us

Video production is an amazing field of work to be engaged in, encompassing everything from writing, directing, videography, audio recording, lighting, and acting to video editing, music composition, motion graphics and visual effects. Traditionally these tasks were handled by large teams of people. Today, many of us are responsible for handling ALL of these tasks. This can be incredibly challenging. If you are a solo shooter or editor, run your own video business or production company, or work with a small team, we know exactly what you're going through. We created GET A GRIP to bring together industry professionals to discuss all stages of video production in an open and uncensored format. How do you maintain your video career, overcome challenges, and step up your game to take on bigger and more creatively and financially rewarding projects? This is what we're here to discuss. Jump on in! It's a fun ride.

The External Monitor/Recorder Epidemic!

In this episode we diagnose a problem that affects nearly every external monitor/recorder on the market. If your camera is capturing 8-bit 0-255 or 10-bit 0-1023 values and you're using an external monitor/recorder you may not be recording the full range of your image. We discuss this in depth and provide a simple, short-term solution via the L³ "Legal Level LUT" created by Thomas Smet of Digital Devigner.
