Vantropolis: VICTORIA BURKHART

EVictoria Burkhart sits down with Colby to discuss growing up in New Zealand and her journey through the film industry. She’s worked on Peter Jackson’s King Kong, the Halo film (that wasn’t), along with Neill Blomkamp’s feature films District 9, Elysium and Chappie which took her to South Africa, Mexico and finally Vancouver. She’s now a Canadian resident, and has found her stride as a producer with her and her husband’s production company, Sizzle Snap. We talk about the loaded “Producer” job title - what it means, the varying roles it can play in film and television, and how the strength of female mentorship can be a game changer for women climbing the ranks of the film industry.

Vantropolis: TOBY GORMAN

EVancouver cinematographer Toby Gorman sits down with Colby to share his journey across the pond from the UK to Vancouver in 2005 to fulfill his dream of working in film. With a baptism of fire as a Production Assistant (think zero rain gear in Vancouver in the fall), he eventually moved into the Lighting department and is now a well respected cinematographer for film and television. We talk about his experiences on all those early TV shows shot in Vancouver - Smallville, The Dead Zone, and Supernatural (Season One no less!) along with his recent work on the Hallmark Channel and the CW television show Riverdale. He also tells a story about the first time he ever met actor Anthony Michael Hall.
