Masters of Webcomics: Silicon Valley Comic Con Post Mortem

In which the recent Silicon Valley Comic Con SVCC is dissected in a post mortem examination. We reveal that it was a hugely entertaining family event, that was very well put together by its organizers and promoted by its celebrity guests. Former podcast guests, Shaenon Garrity and Amber Greenlee join hosts Adam Prosser and Chuck Whelon for this panel discussion. Amber gives feeble excuses for failing to appear on the “Maters of Webcomics” panel at the show, and suffers a detailed blow-by-blow account of the proceedings from Chuck. As usual, Shaenon is witty and on point – when not being distracted by her parenting duties, that is. Adam’s big giant head is reminisced over, and the pros and cons of cons are discussed. Chuck reveals that Stan Lee is his nemesis. Strange noises provided by Robin. Masters of Webcomics: Jason Thompson

Ahighly entertaining conversation with the extremely talented Jason Thompson. Jason’s gotten quite well known in recent years as the creator of a series of official classic D&D module walkthrough maps, which you’ve probably seen on the interweb if you are a tabletop gamer. Jason is a man of boundless imagination and this is just one of the very many other diverse projects he has worked on. Others we talk about include his webcomic “The Stiff”, his “King of RPGs” manga, and his several successful Kickstarter campaigns, including the one for his epic and masterfully creepy comic-book adaptation of H. P. Lovecraft’s “Dreamquest of Unknown Kadath”. The conversation otherwise ranges from80s horror movies, to the early days of D&D, Jason’s upcoming boardgame “Mangaka”, and Adam Prosser’s Left Brain-Right Brain theory of comics.Later, Jason convinces the impressionable Chuck to finally finish reading Moby Dick after giving up on it 25 years ago. Masters of Webcomics: Shaenon Garrity

EAdam and Chuck are very excited to interview one of the first ladies of webcomics. Shaenon Garrity is the pioneering creator of two major webcomic series (and several other littler ones) Narbonic and Skin Horse, both expertly combine daily gag humor with long-form epic storytelling. Shaenon started making webcomics in the year 2000, has written for Marvel, and is intimately involved with San Francisco’s Cartoon Art Museum. She is also a new parent and Chuck postulates that she may, in fact, be the first and only mother to make webcomics. You may notice some squeaky, chirping noises. They were made by Shaenon’s parrakeet, and are not, in fact, the sounds that Adam Prosser makes when he moves his head. You might also think that the crashing and banging you hear later in the episode is being caused Shaenon’s toddler son, but that actually IS Adam, trying to escape from the small commode in which Chuck keeps him imprisoned. Adam’s digressions range as far and wide as ElfQuest, his g...

EA shambolic second episode, which is totally saved by the awesomeness of our amazing guest, the eternally brilliantA.P. Furtado, and his incredible radio voice. Inspired by the work of Moebius and Bode in the Heavy Metal magazines he used to read as a teenager, Tony Furtado has been creating uncompromisingly excellent comics in his own unique and beautifully drawn style since the before the dawn of webcomics. Mr. Furtado tells of his experiences as an independent comics creator, while Adam and Chuck dream that someday, somehow, they might learn to be half as coolas he is. Chuck pontificates on his lofty goals for the podcast and names a bunch of people he’d like to get on the show, then he tries to interview Adam. Adam veers wildly off topic as he expounds on his encyclopedic knowledge of comics and 1980s cartoon shows. Lastly, since the show has already overrun, Adam only briefly interviews Chuck, who will definitely purchase a better microphone before recording the next episode.
