The Resilient Heart

Proverbs lets us know that the heart, the center of human life, is more important even than our outward circumstances in determining what kind of life we have. A heart that fears the Lord and seeks wisdom has sources of comfort that transcend the circumstantial.

With uplifted head

The expected return of Christ as judge enables us to lift up our heads with joyful hope in the midst of tremendous trials and suffering.

Lord of the Sabbath

In defending his disciples from a charge of Sabbath-breaking, the Lord Jesus appealed to OT narrative, the purpose of the law, and his unique identity. Resting in him, we honor the Lord's day and receive its benefit without the burden of meeting others' expectations.

The Spirit is God's earnest

Lord's Day 18 teaches us about the benefits of Christ's ascension. One very signal benefit is the gift of the Holy Spirit, which demonstrates God's commitment to communicating to his people all the blessings of the covenant of grace.

The Sure Mercies of David

God through Isaiah invites all who are thirsty to be satisfied by believing his word, as every necessary blessing is promised in his everlasting covenant.
