The issue of Racism has always been present in our culture, but its been thrust unto center stage as we wrestle with police brutality and systematic racism in cultures across the world. There are some very complex realities to what’s going on. The solutions are not always plain to see or easy to accomplish.
As a Christian, we believe that each person has value and dignity and worth because we are made in God’s image. And there is no distinction in there. An aborigine is not more or less made in God’s image than an anglo from Norway. A south american is not made more or less in God’s image than an African. We are all image bearers of God.
Jesus tells us that the person who loves, the person who really understands what it means to love God with all your heart and soul and mind and strength and love your neighbor as yourself, this person is a person who feels pity and compassion and shows mercy to the oppressed.
