The New Normal: The New Gospel

What gospel fits our world today? When Peter stoodup and presented the Christian Gospel for the very first time in Acts chapter two, it changed the world. What was that gospel, and does it still apply to our world? Cultures change and the Gospel changes along with it. Let's connect our world to Peter's world. Pastor Dan Wilburn wraps up his four-part Eastertide series, The New Normal, with an exploration of the gospel for today's pandemic world.

The New Normal: The Church: “Called, Called In, Called Out”

Have you missed church? You may not realize it but there are deep spiritual forces calling us back together. Christ calls us INTO the church as our true identity as Christians. The church is what it means to be Christian. Then we, the church, are called OUT, out into the world to be salt and light. Acts chapters one and two reveal what it looks like to be CALLED, CALLED IN, CALLED OUT.

The New Normal: “I’m Going Fishing”

The last chapter of John’s Gospel narrates Peter (post denial) telling six other disciples he is going fishing, which was his job before Jesus. “Back to normal.” While they are fishing Jesus appears on the shore. Peter and Jesus re-establish a new relationship after Jesus’ resurrection, a relationship and calling that Peter could not ever imagine. Will we embrace a new normal long after the pandemic ends? Let’s explore this idea in light of Easter’s new creation.

Palm Sunday

One Palm Sunday the people cried out Hosanna, which means, LORD SAVE US. This year we cry out Hosanna also, for many reasons. But one of those reasons is the tension we feel in our homes and families as we struggle to find new ways of living in close quarters. This morning we look to Jesus for rescue right now, in our own homes! His salvation is on the way! Hosanna!

Prayer During A Distressful Time: The Prayer of Lament

The Bible gives us a way to pray during difficult times. This prayer is lament. Jeremiah writes his Lament at the worst time in Israel's history. Job and Jonah are examples of Lament. During Jesus' time the Jews were oppressed and lamented to God. Around one third of the one hundred and fifty Psalms are laments. How do we lament during this pandemic? Let's explore the Bible's unique example of lament prayer, to a personal unique God, our God.
