Heirs With Christ

A Gentle And Quiet Spirit

Text:1 Peter 3:1-6 Submission is a gift of grace. The Bible makes it clear that there is an authority structure within the marriage relationship that is inherent to marriage itself and not the result of the fall nor is it negated by the gospel. Both the husband and the wife have a unique role to play within the marriage relationship. In a perfect world there would be absolutely no tension between these two roles of service. But we do not live in a perfect world. Peter calls on wives to give their husbands a gift of grace by conducting themselves in manner that draws disobedient husbands to the throne of grace.

Suffering Unjustly

Text:1 Peter 2:18-25 There is purpose in our pain. We all find ourselves in relationships where we are under the authority of someone else. These "masters" might wield their authority well, creating a place where we willingly submit to their authority. But what about when our "masters" or evil and abuse their authority? Who are the "masters" in our lives today? What must Christians be willing to endure? What should our submission look like?

Honor The Emperor

Text:1 Peter 2:13-17 We are citizens best when we're servants first. The church has historically fluctuated between extremes when it comes to our engagement with politics and involvement within government institutions. We are either overly engaged or neglectfully disengaged. Peter reminds us that God has a good plan for the government and calls us to realize that as Christians we have an important role to play. Therefore, he calls us away from the extremes to a better way. He calls us to service.

Love One Another

Text:1 Peter 1:22-2:3 Loved people love people. Because of the presence of sin in our lives and in our world, everything is subject to decay and disharmony. Just like the grass and flowers bloom for a season so our lives fade briefly. But beyond just our physical health and lives our relationships tend to degrade into disharmony as well. We have been saved out of our sinful isolation and been adopted into an eternal family. Who we are determines what we do, and since we have been loved by God we are commanded to love one another. We love one another by forsaking harmful practices and by growing in grace. Loved people love people.

You Shall Be Holy

Text:1 Peter 1:13-16 A hope filled life is a holy life. Peter has reflected on the new life and new identity declared to us in thetruths and the promises of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Thisknowledge now compels us into a life of obedience and faith. To live this life of obedience and faith Peter writes that we must set our hope in our future, reject the pull of our past, and model the Lord in our present. We are called to be holy, to dare to be different because a hope filled life is a holy life.
