God Never Said That – Part 1 – God Wants You Happy

Psalm 97:12 (ESV) 12 Rejoice in the Lord, O you righteous, and give thanks to his holy name! Psalm 97:12 (NLT) 12 May all who are godly rejoice in the Lord and praise his holy name! THE THEOLOGY OF HAPPINESS 1. Whatever makes me happy must be right. Whatever makes me unhappy must be wrong. 2. Discomfort, delay, risk, suffering, inconveniences, and obstacles can’t be God’s will. 3. Without knowing it, I begin to worship the false gods of comfort, money, pleasure, and things. GOD DOESN’T WANT YOU HAPPY 1. WHEN IT CAUSES YOU TO DO SOMETHING WRONG OR UNWISE. 1 Peter 1:15 (ESV) 15 but as he who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, 2. WHEN IT IS ONLY BASED ON THINGS OF THIS WORLD. 1 John 2:15-17 (ESV) 15 Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride of life[a]—is not from the Father but is from the world. 17 And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever. GOD WANTS YOU BLESSED Psalm 37:4 (ESV) 4 Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart. Psalm 97:12 (NLT) 12 May all who are godly rejoice in the Lord and praise his holy name!

God Never Said That – Part 1 – God Wants You Happy

Memorial Day (2020)

Daniel 5 (ESV) 5 King Belshazzar made a great feast for a thousand of his lords and drank wine in front of the thousand. 2 Belshazzar, when he tasted the wine, commanded that the vessels of gold and of silver that Nebuchadnezzar his father[a] had taken out of the temple in Jerusalem be brought, that the king and his lords, his wives, and his concubines might drink from them. 3 Then they brought in the golden vessels that had been taken out of the temple, the house of God in Jerusalem, and the king and his lords, his wives, and his concubines drank from them. 4 They drank wine and praised the gods of gold and silver, bronze, iron, wood, and stone. 5 Immediately the fingers of a human hand appeared and wrote on the plaster of the wall of the king’s palace, opposite the lampstand. And the king saw the hand as it wrote. 6 Then the king’s color changed, and his thoughts alarmed him; his limbs gave way, and his knees knocked together. 7 The king called loudly to bring in the enchanters, the Chaldeans, and the astrologers. The king declared[b] to the wise men of Babylon, “Whoever reads this writing, and shows me its interpretation, shall be clothed with purple and have a chain of gold around his neck and shall be the third ruler in the kingdom.” 8 Then all the king’s wise men came in, but they could not read the writing or make known to the king the interpretation. 9 Then King Belshazzar was greatly alarmed, and his color changed, and his lords were perplexed. 10 The queen,[c] because of the words of the king and his lords, came into the banqueting hall, and the queen declared, “O king, live forever! Let not your thoughts alarm you or your color change. 11 There is a man in your kingdom in whom is the spirit of the holy gods.[d] In the days of your father, light and understanding and wisdom like the wisdom of the gods were found in him, and King Nebuchadnezzar, your father—your father the king—made him chief of the magicians, enchanters, Chaldeans, and astrologers, 12 because an excellent spirit, knowledge, and understanding to interpret dreams, explain riddles, and solve problems were found in this Daniel, whom the king named Belteshazzar. Now let Daniel be called, and he will show the interpretation.” 13 Then Daniel was brought in before the king. The king answered and said to Daniel, “You are that Daniel, one of the exiles of Judah, whom the king my father brought from Judah. 14 I have heard of you that the spirit of the gods[e] is in you, and that light and understanding and excellent wisdom are found in you. 15 Now the wise men, the enchanters, have been brought in before me to read this writing and make known to me its interpretation, but they could not show the interpretation of the matter. 16 But I have heard that you can give interpretations and solve problems. Now if you can read the writing and make known to me its interpretation, you shall be clothed with purple and have a chain of gold around your neck and shall be the third ruler in the kingdom.” 17 Then Daniel answered and said before the king, “Let your gifts be for yourself, and give your rewards to another. Nevertheless, I will read the writing to the king and make known to him the interpretation. 18 O king, the Most High God gave Nebuchadnezzar your father kingship and greatness and glory and majesty. 19 And because of the greatness that he gave him, all peoples, nations, and languages trembled and feared before him. Whom he would, he killed, and whom he would, he kept alive; whom he would, he raised up, and whom he would, he humbled. 20 But when his heart was lifted up and his spirit was hardened so that he dealt proudly, he was brought down from his kingly throne, and his glory was taken from him. 21 He was driven from among the children of mankind, and his mind was made like that of a beast, and his dwelling was with the wild donkeys. He was fed grass like an ox, and his body was wet with the dew of heaven, until he knew that the Most High God

Victory Over Fear

Romans 8:1 (ESV) 8 There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.[a] Psalm 46 (ESV) 46 God is our refuge and strength, a very present[b] help in trouble. 2 Therefore we will not fear though the earth gives way, though the mountains be moved into the heart of the sea, 3 though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains tremble at its swelling. Selah 4 There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God, the holy habitation of the Most High. 5 God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved; God will help her when morning dawns. 6 The nations rage, the kingdoms totter; he utters his voice, the earth melts. 7 The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress. Selah 8 Come, behold the works of the Lord, how he has brought desolations on the earth. 9 He makes wars cease to the end of the earth; he breaks the bow and shatters the spear; he burns the chariots with fire. 10 “Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!” 11 The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress. Selah 1. Fear is real… It’s because of the fall. 2. The only permanent solution to our fear is God. 3. Because of God’s love we don’t have to fear our past, present, or future. 4. The Son of God has overcome all of our fear. 5. When fear comes… Run to God.

Victory Over Fear

Mother’s Day (2020)

Hebrews 11:11 (ESV) 11 By faith Sarah herself received power to conceive, even when she was past the age, since she considered him faithful who had promised. A faith that cannot be tested is a faith that cannot be trusted. 1 Peter 1:6-7 (ESV) 6 In this you rejoice, though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been grieved by various trials, 7 so that the tested genuineness of your faith—more precious than gold that perishes though it is tested by fire—may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ. 1. God desires to bless us. Genesis 15:1-6 (ESV) 15 After these things the word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision: “Fear not, Abram, I am your shield; your reward shall be very great.” 2 But Abram said, “O Lord God, what will you give me, for I continue[a] childless, and the heir of my house is Eliezer of Damascus?” 3 And Abram said, “Behold, you have given me no offspring, and a member of my household will be my heir.” 4 And behold, the word of the Lord came to him: “This man shall not be your heir; your very own son[b] shall be your heir.” 5 And he brought him outside and said, “Look toward heaven, and number the stars, if you are able to number them.” Then he said to him, “So shall your offspring be.” 6 And he believed the Lord, and he counted it to him as righteousness. 6 REASONS WHY YOU SHOULD TRUST GOD 1. He knows you by name. Isaiah 43:1 (ESV) 43 But now thus says the Lord, he who created you, O Jacob, he who formed you, O Israel: “Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine. 2. He will fight for you. Exodus 14:14 (ESV) 14 The Lord will fight for you, and you have only to be silent.” 3. He thinks about you. Psalm 139:17 (ESV) 17 How precious to me are your thoughts, O God! How vast is the sum of them! 4. He has plans for you. Jeremiah 29:11 (ESV) 11 For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare[a] and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. 5. He is your refuge. Psalm 62:6-8 (ESV) 6 He only is my rock and my salvation, my fortress; I shall not be shaken. 7 On God rests my salvation and my glory; my mighty rock, my refuge is God. 8 Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your heart before him; God is a refuge for us. Selah 6. He is always with you. Matthew 28:20 (ESV) 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” James 1:17 (ESV) 17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.[a] 2. God’s timing is always perfect. God has perfect timing; never early, never late. It takes a little patience and a whole lot of faith, but it’s worth the wait! Genesis 16:1-2 (ESV) 16 Now Sarai, Abram’s wife, had borne him no children. She had a female Egyptian servant whose name was Hagar. 2 And Sarai said to Abram, “Behold now, the Lord has prevented me from bearing children. Go in to my servant; it may be that I shall obtain children[a] by her.” And Abram listened to the voice of Sarai. 2 Peter 3:8-9 (ESV) 8 But do not overlook this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. 9 The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you,[a] not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance. 3. Nothing is too hard for God. Genesis 18:10-14 (ESV) 10 The Lord said, “I will surely return to you about this time next year, and Sarah your wife shall have a son.” And Sarah was listening at the tent door behind him. 11 Now Abraham and Sarah were old, advanced in years. The way of women had ceased to be with Sarah. 12 So Sarah laughed to herself, saying, “After I am worn out, and my lord is old, shall I have pleasure?” 13 The Lord said to Abraham, “Why did Sarah laugh and say, ‘Shall I indeed bear a child, now that I am old?’ 14

The Time Is NOW – Part 4 – The Time Is NOW To Put God First

If we keep doing what we’re doing, we’re going to keep getting what we’re getting. Stephen Covey Matthew 3:2 (ESV) 2 “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”[a] Human history… is the long terrible story of man trying to find something other than God, which will make him happy. C.S. Lewis Romans 13:11-14 (ESV) 11 Besides this you know the time, that the hour has come for you to wake from sleep. For salvation is nearer to us now than when we first believed. 12 The night is far gone; the day is at hand. So then let us cast off the works of darkness and put on the armor of light. 13 Let us walk properly as in the daytime, not in orgies and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and sensuality, not in quarreling and jealousy. 14 But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to gratify its desires. When we put God FIRST, all other things fall into their proper place. 1. It’s time to TAKE CONTROL OF MY SCHEDULE. Ecclesiastes 4:6 (ESV) 6 Better is a handful of quietness than two hands full of toil and a striving after wind. Jeremiah 6:16 (ESV) 16 Thus says the Lord: “Stand by the roads, and look, and ask for the ancient paths, where the good way is; and walk in it, and find rest for your souls. But they said, ‘We will not walk in it.’ 7 Keys to Life… God first Love one another Never hate Give generously Live simply Forgive quickly Be kind, always 2. It’s time to RETHINK what I allow to enter my MIND AND BODY. 1 Corinthians 10:23 (ESV) 23 “All things are lawful,” but not all things are helpful. “All things are lawful,” but not all things build up. Galatians 5:17 (ESV) 17 For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do. 3. It’s time to organize my FINANCES around GIVE, SAVE, LIVE. Malachi 3:10-18 (ESV) 10 Bring the full tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. And thereby put me to the test, says the Lord of hosts, if I will not open the windows of heaven for you and pour down for you a blessing until there is no more need. 11 I will rebuke the devourer[a] for you, so that it will not destroy the fruits of your soil, and your vine in the field shall not fail to bear, says the Lord of hosts. 12 Then all nations will call you blessed, for you will be a land of delight, says the Lord of hosts. 13 “Your words have been hard against me, says the Lord. But you say, ‘How have we spoken against you?’ 14 You have said, ‘It is vain to serve God. What is the profit of our keeping his charge or of walking as in mourning before the Lord of hosts? 15 And now we call the arrogant blessed. Evildoers not only prosper but they put God to the test and they escape.’” 16 Then those who feared the Lord spoke with one another. The Lord paid attention and heard them, and a book of remembrance was written before him of those who feared the Lord and esteemed his name. 17 “They shall be mine, says the Lord of hosts, in the day when I make up my treasured possession, and I will spare them as a man spares his son who serves him. 18 Then once more you shall see the distinction between the righteous and the wicked, between one who serves God and one who does not serve him. Live like no one else today, so you can live like no one else tomorrow! Dave Ramsey Matthew 6:21 (ESV) 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. 4. It’s time to SPEND TIME WITH GOD. 1 Thessalonians 5:17 (ESV) 17 pray without ceasing, Jeremiah 33:3 (ESV) 3 Call to me and I will answer you, and will tell you great and hidden things that you have not known. The Time Is NOW – Part 4 – The Time Is NOW To Put God First

The Time Is NOW – Part 3 – The Time Is Now To Follow Jesus

God comes to us right WHERE WE ARE, just as we are, but REFUSES TO LEAVE US THERE! Romans 5:8 (ESV) 8 but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Luke 5:1-3 (ESV) 5 On one occasion, while the crowd was pressing in on him to hear the word of God, he was standing by the lake of Gennesaret, 2 and he saw two boats by the lake, but the fishermen had gone out of them and were washing their nets. 3 Getting into one of the boats, which was Simon’s, he asked him to put out a little from the land. And he sat down and taught the people from the boat. When It Comes To Following Jesus… 1. His Timing Has A Way Of Being INCONVENIENT. Luke 5:4-5 (ESV) 4 And when he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Put out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch.” 5 And Simon answered, “Master, we toiled all night and took nothing! But at your word I will let down the nets.” Our response to inconvenient timing is to PROCRASTINATE. Never put off until tomorrow what you can do today. – Thomas Jefferson Never put off until tomorrow what you can do the aay after tomorrow. – Mark Twain James 4:13-14 (ESV) 13 Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go into such and such a town and spend a year there and trade and make a profit”— 14 yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes. 2. He has a way of INTERRUPTING our plans for our life. Luke 5:5-10 English (ESV) 5 And Simon answered, “Master, we toiled all night and took nothing! But at your word I will let down the nets.” 6 And when they had done this, they enclosed a large number of fish, and their nets were breaking. 7 They signaled to their partners in the other boat to come and help them. And they came and filled both the boats, so that they began to sink. 8 But when Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus’ knees, saying, “Depart from me, for I am a sinful man, O Lord.” 9 For he and all who were with him were astonished at the catch of fish that they had taken, 10 and so also were James and John, sons of Zebedee, who were partners with Simon. And Jesus said to Simon, “Do not be afraid; from now on you will be catching men.”[a] Personal frustration is often the result of being spiritually STAGNANT. Ephesians 4:23-24 (ESV) 23 and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, 24 and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness. Colossians 3:10 (ESV) 10 and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge after the image of its creator. 3. It’s always an act of FAITH. Faith is taking the first step even when you can’t see the whole staircase. – Martin Luther King Jr. Luke 5:10-11 (ESV) 10 and so also were James and John, sons of Zebedee, who were partners with Simon. And Jesus said to Simon, “Do not be afraid; from now on you will be catching men.”[a] 11 And when they had brought their boats to land, they left everything and followed him. The act of following is always about the NEXT STEP. Luke 9:24-25 (ESV) 24 For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it. 25 For what does it profit a man if he gains the whole world and loses or forfeits himself? Revelation 3:20 (ESV) 20 Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me. [/column]

The Time Is NOW – Part 3 – The Time Is Now To Follow Jesus

The Time Is NOW – Part 2 – The Time Is Now To Choose Joy

John 15:9-11 (ESV) 9 As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Abide in my love. 10 If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commandments and abide in his love. 11 These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full. JOY is not what happens to you, it’s what happens in you. Nehemiah 8:10 (ESV) 10 Then he said to them, “Go your way. Eat the fat and drink sweet wine and send portions to anyone who has nothing ready, for this day is holy to our Lord. And do not be grieved, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.” How can I choose joy every day? 1. Choose to view what happened to you, DIFFERENTLY. Philippians 1:12 (ESV) 12 I want you to know, brothers,[a] that what has happened to me has really served to advance the gospel, Those who leave everything in GOD’S HANDS will eventually see GOD’S HAND in everything! Romans 8:28 (ESV) 28 And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good,[a] for those who are called according to his purpose. 2. Choose to find the NEW OPPORTUNITIES. Philippians 1:13-14 (ESV) 13 so that it has become known throughout the whole imperial guard[a] and to all the rest that my imprisonment is for Christ. 14 And most of the brothers, having become confident in the Lord by my imprisonment, are much more bold to speak the word[b] without fear. We Tend To Overestimate What We Would Do With The Opportunity We Don’t Have… While Underestimating What We Could Do With The Opportunity We Do Have! – Steven Furtick Exodus 4:1-3 (ESV) 4 Then Moses answered, “But behold, they will not believe me or listen to my voice, for they will say, ‘The Lord did not appear to you.’” 2 The Lord said to him, “What is that in your hand?” He said, “A staff.” 3 And he said, “Throw it on the ground.” So he threw it on the ground, and it became a serpent, and Moses ran from it. 3. Choose to focus on WHAT REALLY MATTERS. Philippians 1:15-18 (ESV) 15 Some indeed preach Christ from envy and rivalry, but others from good will. 16 The latter do it out of love, knowing that I am put here for the defense of the gospel. 17 The former proclaim Christ out of selfish ambition, not sincerely but thinking to afflict me in my imprisonment. 18 What then? Only that in every way, whether in pretense or in truth, Christ is proclaimed, and in that I rejoice. Yes, and I will rejoice, Today I CHOOSE JOY! Philippians 4:6 (ESV) 6 do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.

Resurrection Sunday (2020)

Jesus didn’t come to make bad people Good; He came to make dead people Alive. John 11:17-27 (ESV) 17 Now when Jesus came, he found that Lazarus had already been in the tomb four days. 18 Bethany was near Jerusalem, about two miles[a] off, 19 and many of the Jews had come to Martha and Mary to console them concerning their brother. 20 So when Martha heard that Jesus was coming, she went and met him, but Mary remained seated in the house. 21 Martha said to Jesus, “Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died. 22 But even now I know that whatever you ask from God, God will give you.” 23 Jesus said to her, “Your brother will rise again.” 24 Martha said to him, “I know that he will rise again in the resurrection on the last day.” 25 Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life.[b] Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, 26 and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?” 27 She said to him, “Yes, Lord; I believe that you are the Christ, the Son of God, who is coming into the world.” DEAD ENDS DEAD IN YOUR DOUBTS John 11:16 (ESV) 16 So Thomas, called the Twin,[a] said to his fellow disciples, “Let us also go, that we may die with him.” DEAD IN YOUR DISCOURAGEMENT John 11:20 (ESV) 20 So when Martha heard that Jesus was coming, she went and met him, but Mary remained seated in the house. DEAD IN THE DELAY John 15:13 (ESV) 13 Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends. 1. Open our minds to God’s power. Romans 12:2 (ESV) 2 Do not be conformed to this world,[a] but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.[b] 1 Peter 1:3-4 (ESV) 3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, 2. Open our hearts to God’s love. John 15:13 (ESV) 13 Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends. Romans 6:23 (ESV) 23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. 3. Open our lives to God’s Grace. Luke 23:39-43 (ESV) 39 One of the criminals who were hanged railed at him,[a] saying, “Are you not the Christ? Save yourself and us!” 40 But the other rebuked him, saying, “Do you not fear God, since you are under the same sentence of condemnation? 41 And we indeed justly, for we are receiving the due reward of our deeds; but this man has done nothing wrong.” 42 And he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.” 43 And he said to him, “Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in paradise.” CONSIDER THE ETERNAL MESSAGE OF JESUS. Romans 3:22 (ESV) 22 the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe. For there is no distinction: We are made right with God by placing our faith in Jesus Christ.

The Time Is NOW – Part 1 – It’s Time To Make A Change

Luke 9:57-62 (ESV) 57 As they were going along the road, someone said to him, “I will follow you wherever you go.” 58 And Jesus said to him, “Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head.” 59 To another he said, “Follow me.” But he said, “Lord, let me first go and bury my father.” 60 And Jesus[a] said to him, “Leave the dead to bury their own dead. But as for you, go and proclaim the kingdom of God.” 61 Yet another said, “I will follow you, Lord, but let me first say farewell to those at my home.” 62 Jesus said to him, “No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for the kingdom of God.” Move on from old HISTORY. Isaiah 43:18-19 (ESV) 18 “Remember not the former things, nor consider the things of old. 19 Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert. Move on from old HABITS. Bad habits are like A COMFORTABLE BED, easy to get into, BUT HARD TO GET OUT OF! Ephesians 4:22-24 (ESV) 22 to put off your old self,[a] which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, 23 and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, 24 and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness. Move on from old HURTS. 2 Corinthians 5:17-18 (ESV) 17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation.[a] The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. 18 All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation; I can’t start the NEXT CHAPTER of my life if I keep RE-READING the last one. It’s time to make a change… Matthew 4:17 (ESV) 17 From that time Jesus began to preach, saying, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”[a] 1. It’s time to get CLOSER TO GOD. James 4:8 (ESV) 8 Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. If you want something you’ve never had, then you need to do something you’ve never done! 2. It’s time to get HONEST WITH A FRIEND. James 5:16 (ESV) 16 Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working. If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go with others. 3. It’s time to get in tune with my PURPOSE AND PASSIONS. Galatians 6:3-4 (ESV) 3 For if anyone thinks he is something, when he is nothing, he deceives himself. 4 But let each one test his own work, and then his reason to boast will be in himself alone and not in his neighbor. Ephesians 2:10 (ESV) 10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them. I can’t go back and change the BEGINNING, but I can START WHERE I AM and change the ENDING. Isaiah 1:18 (ESV) 18 “Come now, let us reason[a] together, says the Lord: though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall become like wool.

Dangerous Prayers – Part 3 – Break My Heart

Jeremiah 8:18 (ESV) 18 My joy is gone; grief is upon me;[a] my heart is sick within me. Jeremiah 8:21 (ESV) 21 For the wound of the daughter of my people is my heart wounded; I mourn, and dismay has taken hold on me. What if God’s greatest blessings come from God’s greatest breakings? 1 Peter 1:7 (ESV) 7 so that the tested genuineness of your faith—more precious than gold that perishes though it is tested by fire—may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ. Comfort never once moved me to action! Moses: Mistreatment of Gods people Exodus 2:11-25 (ESV) 11 One day, when Moses had grown up, he went out to his people and looked on their burdens, and he saw an Egyptian beating a Hebrew, one of his people.[a] 12 He looked this way and that, and seeing no one, he struck down the Egyptian and hid him in the sand. 13 When he went out the next day, behold, two Hebrews were struggling together. And he said to the man in the wrong, “Why do you strike your companion?” 14 He answered, “Who made you a prince and a judge over us? Do you mean to kill me as you killed the Egyptian?” Then Moses was afraid, and thought, “Surely the thing is known.” 15 When Pharaoh heard of it, he sought to kill Moses. But Moses fled from Pharaoh and stayed in the land of Midian. And he sat down by a well. 16 Now the priest of Midian had seven daughters, and they came and drew water and filled the troughs to water their father’s flock. 17 The shepherds came and drove them away, but Moses stood up and saved them, and watered their flock. 18 When they came home to their father Reuel, he said, “How is it that you have come home so soon today?” 19 They said, “An Egyptian delivered us out of the hand of the shepherds and even drew water for us and watered the flock.” 20 He said to his daughters, “Then where is he? Why have you left the man? Call him, that he may eat bread.” 21 And Moses was content to dwell with the man, and he gave Moses his daughter Zipporah. 22 She gave birth to a son, and he called his name Gershom, for he said, “I have been a sojourner[b] in a foreign land.” 23 During those many days the king of Egypt died, and the people of Israel groaned because of their slavery and cried out for help. Their cry for rescue from slavery came up to God. 24 And God heard their groaning, and God remembered his covenant with Abraham, with Isaac, and with Jacob. 25 God saw the people of Israel—and God knew. Exodus 3:7-12 (ESV) 7 Then the Lord said, “I have surely seen the affliction of my people who are in Egypt and have heard their cry because of their taskmasters. I know their sufferings, 8 and I have come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians and to bring them up out of that land to a good and broad land, a land flowing with milk and honey, to the place of the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Amorites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites. 9 And now, behold, the cry of the people of Israel has come to me, and I have also seen the oppression with which the Egyptians oppress them. 10 Come, I will send you to Pharaoh that you may bring my people, the children of Israel, out of Egypt.” 11 But Moses said to God, “Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the children of Israel out of Egypt?” 12 He said, “But I will be with you, and this shall be the sign for you, that I have sent you: when you have brought the people out of Egypt, you shall serve God on this mountain.” David: Defilement of God 1 Samuel 17:26 (ESV) 26 And David said to the men who stood by him, “What shall be done for the man who kills this Philistine and takes away the reproach from Israel? For who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he should defy the armies of the living God?” 1 Samuel 17 (ESV) 17 Now the Philistines gathered their armies for battle. And they were gathered at Socoh, which belongs to Judah, and encamped between Socoh and Azekah, in Ephes-dammim. 2 And Saul and the men of Israel were gathered

[/column]
