Subhashish Panigrahi is a marginalized language archivist whose vision is to help document the nuances of the people and their lives in their own languages. He co-founded the O Foundation (OFDN), and his current project OpenSpeaks is an open toolkit for creating digital documentation of any world language. The toolkit consists of open source tools, openly licensed datasets and educational resources that can be used to build a structured documentation of a language. Subhashish has been active over a decade as a community manager in multiple global organizations like Wikimedia Foundation, Centre for Internet and Society, Mozilla, and Internet Society for building volunteer communities to drive openness and connect communities worldwide using the Internet. He has also worked and helped in preserving a language, which at the time of recording was spoken by only 2 people in the world. Can you imagine what that means, a language spoken by a group of people for centuries now survives in dearth. The number of speakers as of 2020 is down to 1. She graduated in painting from the Faculty of Fine Arts, Vadodara and received a master’s degree in film from Syracuse University, NY, which she pursued as a Fulbright Fellow in 1997. Her doctoral research at the IDC focused on Rajasthan’s Kaavad storytelling tradition. After teaching for two decades at the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad, Nina has made Mumbai her home.
