We're still around, just haven't been posting anything on YouTube!Between losing a few team members and moving to a new location, we've stayed pretty busy. Not certain on the format, but hopefully we'll start creating more content in the near future. Thanks to everyone who reached out during our hiatus! High Temp SLA Cookie Cutter and Til Pitha (Indian Dessert) | F3DPS Ep 3.06

We shot this podcast back in November (some elements are from August). Despite the late upload, we were excited to share this one!Cookie cutters aren'tnew to 3d printing, but we'd never designed one before. While designing a custom cookie cutter for Impact Dakota, Eric made an emojicutter just for fun. With cleanliness in mind, we made a high temp SLA cookie cutter as well to see if wecould make it sanitary without melting it. We didn't put it in the dishwasher, but we did boil it. Despite slight warping which was probably avoidable, it boiled just fine! High Temp resin isn't foodsafe but after talking with Formlabs, we felt safe using it for this purpose.Cartman Cookie Cutter by ProtonikAngry Facebook Emoji by F3DPPigsWithWingsOne of our summer interns (Rit) tried to make a device to aid in making Til Pitha, an Indian dessert. It's similar to a crepe or cannoli, but made out of rice powder and sesame seeds. It needs to be round and flat, so he modified a pancake pourer with 3D print...

CES 2018 Wrapup | F3DPS Ep 3.05

A bit late, but here'sour CES 2018 wrapup! This year the 3D printing section of CES was significantly smaller and in a different location. The quality of the booths was very good, but many larger companies had no presence at all.We talk about booths that you may have seen in some of our previous videos, but also a few that we didn't get formal interviews with.Markforged has new materials and had a live tensile test of one of their printed parts.Da Vinci showed off their CJP machine and a da Vinci Color with a built in scanner.Astroreality had their full product line on display. Definitely recommend going for the LUNAR Pro if you are looking to purchase. In the Formlabs booth, we forgot to ask about their new color kit. MD&M Minneapolis | F3DPS Ep 3.03

Last month, Eric and some of the F3DP team went to a trade show called Medical Design & Manufacturing (MD&M) in Minneapolis. Desktop Metal, Stratasys and 3D Systems were all well represented. Our first and favorite booth was RP America. They are resellers of UnionTech, Rize and Desktop Metal. They also work with an electroplating company called RePliForm. We saw another booth called Productivity. They are a machine tool supplier which had Desktop Metal, Stratasys and a FOBA laser on display. A few FaroArms were also on display. Two booths: one for reverse engineering, one for inspection/analysis. Marcus went into a bit more detail about Rize.Don't forgetto follow Fargo 3D Printing for further updates.Likeus on FacebookFollow us on TwitterFollow us on Pinterest

The 3D Hubs Debacle | F3DPS Ep 3.02

A few months ago, 3D Hubs introduced the "Express Checkout." It was a way to streamline the checkout process for newer, less experienced users. Although it may have been a great fit for some, advanced users and the hubs themselves were not pleased. 50 hubs were chosen by 3D Hubs to do the bulk of these orders and would be chosen automatically. Due to an error in the hub auto-selection, Fargo 3D Printing ended up getting a deluge of orders. We just couldn't keep up. Although the Express Checkout has since been updated, it has alienated a large amount of smaller hubs. We will continue using 3D Hubs in the future but are currently not focusing on custom 3D printing. It's updated fairly often, so check the development blog for running changes.Torbjörn Ludvigsen YouTube channelAlso, someone left a DVD collection at the shop and Eric decided that "How To Lose a Guy in 10 Days" would make a good build surface. John and Eric compare two very similar printers which emerged around the same time: BLACKBELT 3D and Printrbelt. BLACKBELT is a Kickstarter printer that was funded back in July and looks to be a good fit for a printing bureau. The Printrbelt is a combo of Printrbot hardware and Polar 3D software, seemingly aimed at hobbyists. Both feature a belt as the build plate which effectively allows for an infinite build size in the Z-axis.
