Straight Talk for Wives Podcast
Podcast Episode STFW 018:
The secret to a concrete commitment in your marriage is to Build it on a Solid foundation – Christ – Part 2
In order to have a solid foundation in Christ first you must be fully committed to Christ.
Sometimes we have trouble with understanding what that really looks like. It simply means to put 100% of your trust in Christ.
Here’s an easy acrostic for the word TRUST that will give you some suggestions on how to deepen your trust in Christ.
“Trust in the lord with all your heart, lean not on your own understanding. But in all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make your path straight.” Proverbs 3: 5, 6 (NIV)
T = Time with him in prayer (We went over the details on this one in the last podcast)
R = Remember God’s purpose is bigger than my problems (This one too)
U = Unite with others for prayer and support
You might be wondering how this one has anything to do with learning to trust in Christ. Well Here are three reasons uniting with other wives for prayer and support can help you build your trust in Christ;
* Uniting with other wives for prayer and support helps my faith grow twice a fast. When God answers a prayer that someone has shared with me; I’m immediately filled with encouragement that He is really listening to us! Same thing happens to others when God answers a prayer that I’ve shared with them. They’re also encouraged and as a result the we both trust in Christ even more.
* Uniting with other wives for prayer and support will fill me with encouragement. When you share what you’re struggling with in your marriage with a trusted friend they can offer encouragement. There is nothing more healing than to have a friend send you an encouraging text when you’re feeling discouraged. When you don’t think God is seeing what you’re going through, your friends can remind you that He is still there even when you don’t see any improvements. This will help to grow your trust in Christ because your friend can be praying for you even when you don’t feel like praying. They can remind you of helpful verses in the Bible when you’re too discouraged to open the Bible.
* Uniting with other wives for prayer and support will help grow your trust in Christ by helping you stay on track. When you want to give up on your marriage; your friend can help talk you off the ledge. When you are unsure what to do or say to your husband in a specific situation; she can be a good “sounding board” for you. I hate to say it but us wives can easily talk ourselves into an emotional mess just rehashing an argument we had with our husband. I have done this so many times. I’ve made mountains out of many molehills! Having a fellow supportive wife who can listen and tell you when you’re over-reacting can save you from making even bigger mistakes.
S = Stand firm on God’s promises in the Bible
It says in Joshua 1:8 “Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do.”
Here’s three tips that will help you learn how to understand God’s promises and ultimately strengthen your trust in Christ:
* Read the Bible – DAILY. The first step is just to get to know what God says. In addition to talking to Him, reading His word is the next best way to do that. For those of you who are newbies to reading the Bible; Psalms is a great book to start with if you don’t know where to start. You can also start with the New Testament. Just get started. Don’t wait until you have a free hour. Start today. When you finish listening to this podcast, take a moment to read for say 5 minutes.
