Let's Talk Spanish
Rigoberta Menchú is an incredible woman and one who has not been spoken about enough. Being of Mayan descent, the Guatemalan lady had an incredibly tough start to life, having seen many of her family members murdered in the horrific genocides committed by the Guatemalan military against the indigenous population of the country.
Despite all of the risks, she didn't just give up but continued to fight for the rights of indigenous people around the world but particularly those from her country and women, who she saw to be some of the greatest victims. Due to this work and especially her testimonial biography "I, Rigoberta Menchú", released in 1983, she received the Nobel Peace Prize at the age of just 33, becoming one of the youngest Nobel Laureates.
Listen to this episode to learn all about the life and struggles of this amazing woman and to practise your Spanish at the same time. I hope you enjoy!
