He studied journalism at a 4-year college in the US and was trained to be a newscaster for TV and radio stations. After returning to Okinawa, he joined a local Englishlanguage daily as a reporter and worked there for about 8 years. Then, he went to Tokyo and got a job at a foreign-capital PR firm as a staff. During the next 14-year tenure in PR, he made more than 200 presentations in English and also regularly briefed on visiting foreign company executives about Japanese business customs and manners.
