DiscCo January 2019

Happy New year and welcome to another chapter in the world of disco, nu and old. In this mix there's well-over two and a half hours of great choons hand-picked from my DJ box. And I'm easing you into a new disco year with a couple of 100bpm-ish tracks beginning with one of my favourites, the unadulterated original version of "Le Spank" by Le Pamplemousse. Did it inspire Barry White's "It's ecstasy when you lay down next to me"? Well, it certainly inspired Robbie Williams' "Rock DJ". Take a listen to them and decide for yourself. I don't think Le Spank was a hit here in the UK (it reached number 58 in the US in 1978) so I'm not sure how I found it as a kid, but if the weather was right I could just about pick up US-music influenced station Beacon Radio (http://tiny.cc/67v41y) over in Wolverhampton so maybe I found it there. Another north American success who didn't transfer it to the UK was Canadian France Joli. Here we have Mr Jazzhole's edit of her 1981 hit "Gonna get over you". An...

DiscCo December 2018

Here's December's dose of disco a little earlier than usual as I'm hoping to find time to produce another - possibly Christmas Party flavoured - mix before the end of the year. And, even though I say so myself this is one hell of a party. Kicking off with the amazing edit of Odyssey's "Going back to my roots" by Disco Incorporated and then including Jermaine Jackson, Teena Marie, The Isley Brothers, the Commodores, and possibly one of my favourite disco tracks "Devil's gun" by C J & Co. Over two hours of pure disco heaven, mixed with love in London. Enjoy! DiscCo October 2018

Over two hours of amazing disco: brand new tracks, edits, remixes and classics. I think they're all great - that's why I chose them - but my favourites this month include Brooklyn Classic's homage to the Commodore's beautiful "Zoom" called simply "Fly"; then there's "Right back" by St Jude which updates Randy Crawford's exquisite 1983 track "Bottom line". You'll instantly recognise Chewy Rubs' "Aux natural", an excellent edit of Chaka Khan. And you know I'm a sucker for a bit of gospel disco and the first in this mix is from Greg Winfield and Kadesh with "I found love". Later, you'll hear the Soup Dragons' belting "I'm free". Yeah! I thought War were one of the funkiest bands in the solar system and I've dropped in "Galaxy" to remind you with an update from DJ Laurel. And 1980s prog rock makes its first appearance in my set from British supergroup Yes. They jumped on the disco bandwagon in 1983 when uber-Producer Trevor Horn joined them to make their "90125" album which gave us "Own...

This is THE disco soundtrack of the summer of 2018. You won't be able to resist the hypnotic rhythms of Mark Knight's "In the other pocket", or the retro-boogie of Doug Willis' "Risky biznizz" thanks to Bionic Boogie's original "Risky Changes". Then why does HNNY's "Gymnastics" sound like the disco version of a 1980s TV cop show theme? One of my favourites is a re-tread of Bobby Thurston's "Very last drop" now re-vitalised revved up and re-titled "I'm gonna love you" by Audio Jacker. Ooh, and don't miss a delicious drop of Barry White from Ultrasoul. Or maybe my favourite is the sexily smooth "Keep it together" by Kraak & Smaak? I just can't decide. Maybe you can help me! Mixed with love from London X Here's the full track list: (1) Cali's party (Original Mix) by DISCOTRON, (2) In the other pocket (Original Mix) by MARK KNIGHT, (3) Brand new (Original Mix) by DISCOTRON, (4) Where the one is (Original Mix) by ART OF TONES, (5) Risky biznizz (Joey Negro Bionic House Mix) by DOUG WILLI...
