They Need You!

Look! Someone’s Behind You

Ben Stuart, pastor of Passion City Church in Washington DC paints some stunning pictures to inspire us to pass the faith on to the next generation. First, Ben shares about hitting the wall in a marathon in college. He wanted to quit but then he thought of his bible study leader Chris who had completed a marathon the year before in an icy rainstorm. That image helped Ben sprint through the finish line shouting “I want to be like Chris!” We need to inspire the next generation to run the marathon of life well by showing them how to do it. Next in 2008 Starbucks was in a freefall, closing at least hundreds of stores. They shut everything down and retrained their young workers. That move turned Starbucks around. And this is the hope of the church: Inspiring and training the generation behind us in the truths of the gospel. Then in the reboot of Star Wars, Batman, and in the film Kingdom of Heaven, Liam Neeson was the old wise mentor. Hollywood gets what we sometimes miss: Timothys are desperate for the training of Pauls! Next Ben remembers pastor Thomas Nelson saying that he wanted 20 year old pall bearers at his funeral with tears running down their faces because he poured his life into them. Then in early America William Tennant was a boring preacher with very few gifts. But one thing knew was how to be faithful. He trained young men in a log cabin school who caught the fire of the Holy Spirit and went on to spread the gospel throughout the land. And finally imagine worshipping Jesus in the age to come with a group of younger people that you helped run their race well. It’s what we can look forward to as we empower those who are coming up behind us!

Immersed in Love

It’s Freedom Friday! We celebrate the beautiful, extravagant, limitless love of Jesus. First being in Christ is like being immersed in a bottomless ocean of love—Because of his great love we have been rescued from becoming, for eternity, more and more the worst of who we are! Then, if you ever wanted to know what the story of the bible is all about and how you fit in it in about 5 minutes, here it is! Then Perry shares the first time he had the awareness of his sin—after stumbling onto porn when he was 8. But Perry’s hope in all his sin, and yours as well, is in Jesus who instead of taking his earned reward of heaven just for himself, allowed himself to be broken so that we who don’t deserve heaven can have what only he deserves! Next, we have spent so much of our lives ravenously thirsty, trying to quench our thirst by drinking from dirty wells. But today is a new day, a day to turn, to repent, to drink from the river of life that flows from Jesus’ wounded side! And finally Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rogers can’t imagine a God who “wants to condemn most the of the planet to a fiery hell.” We can’t either. We take an extended gaze at the furious love of God that has existed from eternity past and how he decided to share that love knowing it would cost the death of his own son. Share this life giving gospel on your social media platforms!

Swept Up In God's Plan

This week we’re seeing from the story of Ruth how little steps of faith, great hardships and surrendering to God by Naomi, Ruth, and Boaz swept them into God’s plan to bless the world. Their steps of faith impacted generations to come including the salvation of three Muslims in our generation! First Aaron’s story. Aaron grew up in a poor Muslim family. He moved to the Middle East to get rich. His sister in law stepped out in faith, like Naomi, Ruth and Boaz and shared the gospel with him. Right after that Aaron had a vision of Jesus in a Middle Eastern mosque. Check out this amazing story. Then Umar Ado’s story. He and his young friends went to a Christian gathering intending to attack everyone there. But the faithful message of from a preacher changed Umar’s life forever. And finally Kamal’s story. Kamal was the Imam (leader) of his village’s mosque. After a faithful messenger, Rashid, shared a film about Jesus with Kamal something absolutely stunning happened to Kamal to tr...

A Story of Hope

We push further into the life-giving truths found in the story of Ruth. First, Naomi has lost everything, her husband and her two sons. Humanly speaking, it’s hopeless. But through God’s unseen hand Naomi’s hope and joy are restored. But the fullness of her restoration was way beyond what she ever knew in this life. Then, the book of Ruth reminds us that no matter how empty and barren and hard and painful life may be right now, God is writing his story through you to bring his salvation to the world. Then we see how one family, committed to the Lord can change the destiny of the world! And finally, if it seems that God is against you, that he has abandoned you and brought calamity on you, you’re in good company. That’s how Naomi felt. And she told the Lord so. But in the hardest place, God was writing a story of hope for the ages. And that’s what God is doing for you. May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him so that you will overflow with hope th...

It’s the story two women, Naomi and Ruth, who lose everything only to find themselves swept up in God’s big story to save the whole world. It’s a story of how God provides for you and me when all hope is lost! First Tessa gives us a great sweeping overview of the story of Ruth. Then we see this ancient story pointing to Jesus, the Bread of Life. Next we see the story pointing to Jesus, our great Redeemer and Rescuer. Then we experience the bitterness of Naomi and how we can move out o...

Woke

The only way to really be “woke,” is to wake up to who we really are. First, by being spiritually reborn we remember who we really are: Created in God’s image, created to reflect him. And as we spend more time in the word, soaking on the truth of who we really are, we become a clearer reflection of his image. Then, the only way to recover who we really are is for everything we think we are to be stripped away. Grand Rapids pastor Rod VanSolkema, tells the powerful story of Naaman, a proud man with leprosy, who surrendered everything he thought he was to find out who he really was—A loved child of the living God. And finally Jack Haveman, our station manager tells his own story of running from God, finding his identity in performance, being pursued by Jesus when he was dead in sin, then being raised to life with a new identity: Alive to God!
