Calls for recognition of WW2 Cook Islands coast watchers

The late Papa William Kiri Cuthers was part of a group of indigenous Cook Islands coast watchers selected and trained to feed intel into the WWII Pacific watch. The NZ Prime Minister at the time specially ordered military recognition for the coast watchers, but it only applied to those from NZ and not from the Cook Islands or any other island nations. Now Cuthers' grandson and namesake William Cuthers is on a mission to formally recognised the Pacific coast watchers.

Mark Latu is the first Tongan warrant officer in the Royal NZ Navy with the official title of Warrant Officer Seaman Combat Specialist. He joined the navy in 1998 as an Ordinary Seaman Gunner and since then he’s been able to explore the world and even awarded medals for his work.
