Parashat Balak: Structure for Success
Dena Weiss. Although Bila’am had initially intended to curse the Jewish people, as per his contract with King Balak, when the time came he ended up blessing us instead. The opening of his blessing is the verse of מַה טֹּבוּ אֹהָלֶיךָ יַעֲקֹב, how good are your tents, Ya’akov which is traditionally recited upon entering a synagogue to pray. Although it is unlikely that Bila’am himself was referring to places of worship, this verse does teach us about the value of building institutions and structures as part of our efforts to do good and contribute good to the world.

Not Reckoned Among the Nations (Balak 5779)
"I am delighted to share with you the newest cycle of Covenant & Conversation essays on the weekly parsha (Torah reading). I am particularly excited to introduce a Family Edition accompaniment to this year's series which has two main aims. First, to present the ideas in Covenant & Conversation in a simplified way, making my ideas more accessible to children and teenagers. Second, to act as an educational resource for parents, teachers and anyone else to engage their children and students in meaningful and stimulating conversations about the parsha."
