20 Tools to Tame Anxiety | Emiliya Zhivotovskaya
Anxiety is at an all-time high right now, and there are valid reasons for concern. At the same time, most of us have more control over how we experience this moment, psychologically and emotionally, than we realize. There are many practical, accessible ways to reduce anxiety and move away from panic. This is why we asked longtime collaborator and wellbeing advisor, Emiliya Zhivotovskaya, to help us better understand anxiety, and walk us through 20 highly-specific tools and techniques to reduce anxiety and bring yourself back to a place of relative ease and calm, no matter how groundless or anxiety-provoking the world around you may feel in this moment. Emiliya is the CEO and founder of The Flourishing Center, a New York City-based, B-Corp dedicated to increasing the flourishing of individuals, organizations, and communities. Best of: The age of "mega-identity" politics
Happy Thanksgiving! Please enjoy a re-air episode from April 2018 with Lilliana Mason. Yes, identity politics is breaking our country. But it’s not identity politics as we’re used to thinking about it.In Uncivil Agreement: How Politics Became Our Identity, Lilliana Mason traces the construction of our partisan “mega-identities”: identities that fuse party affiliation to ideology, race, religion, gender, sexuality, geography, and more. These mega-identities didn’t exist 50 or even 30 years ago, but now that they’re here, they change the way we see each other, the way we engage in politics, and the way politics absorbs other — previously non-political —spheres of our culture. In making her case, Mason offers one of the best primers I’ve read on how little it takes to activate a sense of group identity in human beings, and how far-reaching the cognitive and social implications are once that group identity takes hold. I don’t want to spoil our discussion here, but suffice to s...

#234: Marie Kondo -- The Japanese Tidying Master
Marie Kondo (@MarieKondo, also known as "KonMari") is a Japanese organizing consultant, author, and entrepreneur. She developed a revolutionary method of organizing known as the KonMari Method, which consists of gathering together everything you own, one category at a time, and then keeping only those things that "spark joy" -- as well as choosing a dedicated place to store them. Going far beyond a typical tidying how-to, her method is a way of life and a state of mind. Marie captured the findings in her mega-best-selling books, including The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up: The Japanese Art of Decluttering and Organizing and its follow-up, Spark Joy: An Illustrated Master Class on the Art of Organizing and Tidying Up. Her books have sold more than seven million copies and have been published in more than forty countries. Kondo's methods have become so famous that her last name has become a verb, 'Kondo-ing,' and people who share her specific values are referred to as 'Konverts.' ...

Putting Ice in the Soup

Why Some Things Can't Be Taught
In this week's podcastI share an old Sufi story about a village surrounded by a seemingly infinite, impenetrable wall and what happened when they try to find out what's on the other side. (As it happens, it also points to the limitations of spiritual teaching and sharing and why sometimes the only way out is in.)
What's it to You?
This week's podcast is an exploration of how the number one enemy of inner peace is our own habit of winding ourselves up about anything and everything.
The Balloon of Consciousness
In this podcastI share a simple metaphor for how we can go higher and experience more of our innate health and deeper nature in our daily lives.

EP17: How Life is Providing Constant Feedback
Do you know what your feelings are showing you? If they provide feedback that guides us through life, do you know how to read that feedback? The Old Paradigm had it wrong. It taught us to read our feelings in a way that actually isn't accurate; a way that has created endless confusion and complication for people everywhere. Learn what the New Paradigm shows us about reading the feedback we're getting.
EP13: How Achievement, Mastery, and Productivity go through the roof in The New Paradigm with Fernanda –Life on Tellus
My guest on today’s episode is Fernanda from Life on Tellus. Fernanda is classic high achiever, as you’ll hear from her shortly. She’s mastered many things in life and she’s just getting started. But all of that achievement used to look necessary, like it was what she had to do to be acceptable. And that came at a high cost, as you can imagine. For Fernanda, that cost took the form of stress, anxiety, depression, and long-time eating disorders. All of that changed when Fernanda came to see something about how she really works. She’s mastering as much as ever, but with far more ease and grace. Fernanda is a coach who works with High achievers so you can see more about her at https://lifeontellus.com Enjoy this conversation with Fernanda!
EP18: Recovery from Within with Rebecca Perkins and Bea Arscott
In this episode I talk with Rebecca Perkins and Bea Arscott, a mother and daughter duo who share this New Paradigm really beautifully…particularly with regard to their experience with anorexia. Several years ago, Bea was diagnosed with anorexia and struggled with that for many years. Which means Rebecca had her own struggle—a daughter with anorexia—for many years. What they’ve come to see about health and resilience and change is remarkable. They’ve written a book together about their journey called Recovery from Within: A Mother and Daughter’s Journey Through Anorexia. I hope you enjoy this conversation!
EP8: The Ironic Truth About Procrastination
Procrastination is a habit that is really ironic. It looks like the problem is all about (not) doing. All about too much inaction…too little action. So of course, we push harder. We force more. We set rigid objectives and consequences. We download productivity apps and find accountability buddies, all in the name of focusing on behavior and doing more, more, more. But look one level deeper and procrastination is a thinking issue, not a behavior issue. Join me as I talk with Julie Gray, procrastination expert. Julie helps me unpack what procrastination truly is. See more about Julie here: https://profound-impact.com/about
EP4: Want to Break a Habit? Watch a Kid.
What can a child show you about living freely, without habits, anxiety, and other issues? Everything. Children show us how we come “out of the box”, before our mind creates thought and then forgets it was the creator. This episode will remind you what your out-of-the-box settings really are, and how easy it is to be back there.
EP2: Your Mind Fixes Itself
When we take action to try to change our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, we’re interfering where we don’t need to. We’re interfering with a system that clears and corrects and changes perfectly—on its own. Discover in this episode how your mind clears itself, and that there is actually nothing to fix.
EP3: A New Psychology
In this episode, I dive further into the New Paradigm that Changeable is based upon; the new paradigm that shows us how deep and lasting change comes from insight and seeing things clearly, rather than action and doing things differently.
EP56: This One Word is the Key to Everything You’re Looking For. And, it’s the Worst Advice You’ll Ever Hear.
If you’re scanning these show notes for the one word that is the key to everything you’re looking for…I’m not going to include it here. You have to listen to the episode to find out. Do you have a guess though? It’s the key to everything you’re looking for and the worst advice you’ll ever hear. You find everything you’re searching for when you do the magic word. But someone advising you to do the magic word almost never helps. In fact, the advice usually results in the opposite of the magic word. Enough riddles already, just listen to the episode!
155: Frustrated by your bad habits? Meet Dr Amy Johnson
What if that cellulite, or the big spider didn’t have such a hold over you? What if you could realise that it’s all just a bunch of stories we’re making up? Behavioral plans, mindsets, hard work and willpower are NOT where deep, sustainable change comes from, says my guest Dr Amy Johnson who is known for her ability to help people create lasting change. Amy Johnson PhD is a psychologist, coach, author, and speaker who shares a groundbreaking new approach that helps people find true, lasting freedom from unwanted habits via insight rather than willpower. She is the author of Being Human (2013), and The Little Book of Big Change: The No-Willpower Approach to Breaking Any Habit (2016). I so enjoyed this conversation for the aha’s that happened the whole way through, realising just how much the made up stories impact the unfolding of our lives - if we let them! If you are held back by fear, can’t break your negative self talk or habits that aren’t serving you, this show is a must....
