202: Reparative Therapy Part 3 - Current status, advice for others, and hope for changes within our culture.
In this 3-part series Natasha Helfer Parker, LCMFT (The Mormon Therapist and MormonMatters.org), interviews one of her earliest clients: a married, Mormon homosexual man, coming out to his wife. Names have been withheld to protect anonymity to the family. Note: The purpose of this interview is not to encourage people to stay or leave the church, to stay or leave a marriage, nor to participate or not participate in reparative therapy. These are all delicate personal decisions and different circumstances will necessitate different solutions. The purpose of this interview is to share a story. It is also meant to increase empathy and to reach out to those who may find themselves in similar situations.
#337-Do Mormon Leaders Claim to See Christ?!-7-30-2018
In this episode, I discuss whether current & past Mormon leaders claim or have claimed to see Christ. Apostles like Dallin Hoaks(the Boise Rescue) & Boyd K. Packer(General Conference-April 1971) claim "it's toosacredto talk about" while insinuating that they do see him but can't discuss any details because it would violate some strict rule that someone has placed upon them to not talk about it. Who is in charge of them & making these rules? Kirton & McConkie? It's all lawyers & signed documents nowadays anyway, so probably so. After all, they arelegally: "The Corporation of the President of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints" & "TheCorporation of the Presiding Bishopof the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints." They like to make it mysterious & mystical so that members can assume they see Christ & then perpetuate the myth. After all, they do claim to be "special witnesses of Jesus Christ", in every General Conference, right? They also like to leave an "Apostolic ...

Two elderly men help us all out by giving such advice as to avoid admiring oneself in the mirror, leave the bathroom door open while taking showers, and to wear tight clothing to sleep in order to avoid wanking in a semi-sleep condition. Who knew you could sin in semi-sleep!

1062: Lindsey Johnson Snider - Navigating BYU-Idaho During a Faith Crisis Pt. 4
Lindsey Johnson Snider was raised LDS and attended BYU-Idaho from 2012-2016. She experienced a shift towards progressive/liberal Mormonism in 2013, which coincided with a faith crisis. Later, Lindsey became the editor in chief of the BYU-Idaho student newspaper called "The Scroll," and worked for the paper until the end of 2015. During her time with "The Scroll" Lindsey wrote many controversial editorial and opinion columns, which both changed some hearts and minds on progressive issues, and also upset/angered some orthodox Mormons. Lindsey's tenure with the paper included a meeting with the dean of the BYU-Idaho religion department, wherein all BYU-Idaho religion professors were told to be more respectful of those in their classrooms who may be part of the LGBTQ community. After leaving BYU-Idaho, Lindsey and her husband lost their first baby girl at 23 weeks due to premature labor. This experience caused much grief for Lindsey and her husband, and ultimately brought her 5 year fai...

#005: Leaving Mormonism
“Why would Coca-Cola have a better marketing strategy than God?” ~ Ami In this episode I am joined by Ami, one of the hosts of the Secular Soup podcast, as she shares her story of growing up in the Mormon church and what eventually prompted her to question Mormonism and religion in general and quietly take leave of that faith tradition. We talked about how Mormonism views women in the church, the racist beliefs written into Mormon doctrine, the pseudoscientific and magical worldview of Mormonism’s founder Joseph Smith, the bizarre cosmology of the religion, family life and civic habits of Mormonism’s members, the secret “sacred temple” initiation rites, and the submarines featured in the Book of Mormon (yes, you read that right), and why Coca-Cola has a better marketing strategy than God.
