Sometimes the most important thing we can do when we are training ourdog is...nothing. How else will we find out what our dog knows if we don't stop every once and a while and see what they know? It's a lesson my own dog taught me many years ago. It has led to a delightful give and take that allows me to learn from her as she learns from me. Sometimes you just have to wait for the dog!

Before you bring the dog home: Prepare your home for the new arrival. Young dogs explore the world with their mouths. This may give you a new perspective on loose cords, trash cans without lids, chewable shag rugs. Take it slow. Bond with the dog. Offer treats and let dogs explore and settle in before you start trying to teach basic manners. Set ground rules as a family. Determine who will feed, and walk the dog.
