David & Jonathan: Lessons from their lives & friendship - Our Journey

1 Samuel 18:1-4 Application • In the message we talked about some of the lessons we can learn from David and Jonathan‘s journey. Which point/lesson stood out to you? • Charles Spurgeon once said that “friendship is one of the sweetest joys of life. Many might have failed beneath the bitterness of their trial had they not found a friend.” Who was a friend to you during a hard season in your life? What made them such a good friend to you during that time? • Let’s talk about jealousy. It’s sinful and distractive to us and those around us. Ultimately jealousy is not an issue we have with another person, it’s an issue we have with God. In Saul and Jonathan we see two different responses to God’s favor which was on David. Why do you think each responded the way they did? How has this played out your life?

Non-Negotiable Faith - The Path

Be on guard for False Prophets. They sound great and seem to make sense, however, they compromise and undermine true Christian faith. The fruit they produce is rotten, and their eternal future is bleak. We need to recognize false prophets and be able to expose the pattern of their error. We MUST know the NON-NEGOTIABLE Doctrines of our faith that form the solid and unmovable foundation of our faith. And finally, we need understanding about doctrines that have flexibility in interpretation. Application Questions; 1. Have you been affected by false prophets in the past? 2. What were the NON-NEGOTIABLE doctrines they denied? 3. What were the “Flexible” doctrines they made mandatory? 4. How did the Lord reveal His truth to you? 5. Has the Lord given you security through the solid doctrines of the faith? 6. What else has the Lord given or shown you?

If someone is truly sincere about what they believe, no matter what it is, why isn’t that enough to enter Heaven? 4. How has the “narrow road” been hard for you? 5. What is the cost of traveling the wide road? What is the cost of traveling the narrow road? 6. 1 Timothy 4:7 says, “Train yourself to be godly.” How have you been training yourself to be godly lately? How disciplined have you been with it? If not well disciplined, what can you do to help with that? (ie: set a specific time of day, get an accountability partner, etc.)
