Warming up for pre-season

With Whitecaps pre-season launching this week at UBC, Patrick Johnston welcomes Mike Martignago aboard to take a first look at the new season. Is Carl Robinson done spending? Can we really expect anything different this year from last? And what the heck happened with Nosa? Plus, a run through of everyone’s favourite: Mike’s annual look at the MLS SupperDraft. This is the Whitecaps Weekly, on Province Sports Radio.

Warming up for pre-season

A win, a loss: Things are looking up

Two games since the last podcast. Two games which tell us a lot. The Caps pulled out a big win over a very poor Galaxy side. And they put up a very brave effort against a very good Tigres side. Mike Martignago and Patrick Johnston break it all down, from goalkeeping, to crowd sizes, to wingers, to midfielders, to lax security, to great goals. This is the Whitecaps Weekly on Province Sports Radio.

What’s your favourite: GAM? TAM? JAM?

Hey now, here's some news: a Trade! Mike Martignago joins Patrick Johnston to look at the exit of Kekuta Manneh. Tony Tchani is the return. What's the deal? This is the Whitecaps Weekly on Province Sports Radio.

Red Card Crises and Midfield Missives

So the Whitecaps aren't off to the best start. There's just two goals in three league games. Oh, and two red cards. And some real struggles moving the ball through midfield. Patrick Johnston and Mike Martignago are back to look at the Whitecaps in their week off. There's a defence of Carl Robinson in here too, just to rile some of the fans up. This is the Whitecaps Weekly, on Province Sports Radio.

Red Card Crises and Midfield Missives

Hey, the Whitecaps are a world top-24 club!

It's week two of the MLS season. Patrick Johnston and Mike Martignago take stock of the Caps' opening tilts against RBNY and the Philly Union. A CCL win gives hope. A MLS draw prompts worry. Can it really be both? Plus, thoughts on the roster, Brek Shea as a DP and the rollout of a fun new feature. This is the Whitecaps Weekly, powered by Province Sports Radio.

The 2017 Whitecaps: A Mystery

Who are these guys? Patrick Johnston brings Mike Martignago in to launch the 2017 season of the Whitecaps Weekly. What to make of the additions of Brek Shea and Fredy Montero. (And Mauro Rosales!) The Whitecaps have one clear task ahead of them this season: fix the defending. There was a lot which went wrong there, but there was a lot that went right a year before. It's an intriguing. This is Province Sports Radio.

The 2017 Whitecaps: A Mystery

At the end of it all…what do we have?

The podcast is back. We were off for too long. Sounds fitting, sadly, for the end of the Whitecaps' season. Marc Weber joins Patrick Johnston to look at a team clearly on the verge of transition. First, how did we get here? And then there's that dustup in training this week between David Ousted and Pedro Morales. It's everything, in one small package. This is the Whitecaps Weekly, on Province Sports Radio.

You don’t like attention when you’re in the dumps

Remarkably, the Whitecaps still have a sliver of hope. But really, it was dealt the mortal wound in Seattle. Patrick Johnston and Marc Weber begin the process of sorting out what went wrong this year. There are still games to play of course, but the team will surely get a different look this off season. Oh, and about that Camilo guy. This is the Whitecaps Weekly on Province Sports Radio.

Off to Seattle! Off to the Champions League quarters!

The numbers don't lie. The Whitecaps are still in it — but only if they keep winning. They won last week in Columbus to keep hope alive. They won midweek in Kansas City to win their Champions League group. It's been a good week.

Off to Seattle! Off to the Champions League quarters!

A true make or break weekend for the Whitecaps and Canada

The Whitecaps are still in it. It's a paper-thin margin...but there's still a chance for MLS playoffs. But it means a win this weekend vs. the Red Bulls and hopefully a good result in the Portland vs. Dallas match on Saturday. Marc Weber and Patrick Johnston break down the lineup and ponder what Pedro Morales' season means for his future. Plus, Canada is in Honduras. It can't go as badly as it went four years ago, can it? A result in San Pedro Sula would mean set up Tuesday's home match vs. El Salvador brilliantly. This is the Whitecaps Weekly on Province Sports Radio.
