3rd Degree Byrne Episode 58: Aliens: Earth Angel

Welcome one, welcome all to the beginning of the 3rd Degree Byrne Halloween Extravaganza!!! Over the next few weeks, 3rd Degree Byrne will be doing our very best to get you the horror related work of John Byrne. And to kick that off, we will be covering a very special monster indeed: Alien! That is right! John Byrne did an Alien one shot story back in 1994. It is set in the in the mid 1950’s and it just wants to leap off the page and hug your face, if you know what I mean. The story was originally published two pages at a time in the Dark Horse Previews back in the day, but is also available as a single issue story. Tim Elliott, Kirk Greenfield and Brian Hughes cover “Aliens: Earth Angel” from cover to cover and then nuke it from orbit. It is the only way to be sure. So, pull up a glass of that milky stuff Ash likes so much and cower, while 3rd Degree Byrne brings you “Aliens: Earth Angel”. It is a Halloween treat. What? Did you think it was a trick?

3rd Degree Byrne Episode 58: Aliens: Earth Angel

3rd Degree Byrne Episode 57.5: Star Trek: Leonard McCoy, Frontier Doctor 3 & 4

Dont you wish you had one of those 23rd Century Med Beds like in Star Trek? They could check all your signs just by you laying down, everything. Today, we have a lot of new ways of checking our health, but they still havent found that non invasive sensor for the prostate? Why is that? I mean, it always seem like my Doc is shooting for the uvula. Now Leonard McCoy, he is just to cool for that job. That is why he always has assistants. Weather it is Chapel, Duncan or Theela, he always has someone there to do the dirty work. This week, 3rd Degree Byrne wraps up their coverage of Star Trek: Leonard McCoy, Frontier Doctor by finishing up issues three and four. The whole crew is here: Tim Elliott, Brian Hughes, John Hijatt, David Thompson and Kirk Greenfield are all here to comment and even with the five of them, they just dont understand how that prime directive is supposed to work. Maybe you can educate them. We also talk about our Halloween coverage coming up and ask our listeners to provide some thoughts on what we should cover for the rest of the year on forward. So grab your Dramamine and put on your acid free boots because it will get deep when 3rd Degree Byrne completes coverage of Star Trek: Leonard McCoy, Frontier Doctor.

3rd Degree Byrne Episode 57: Star Trek: Leonard McCoy, Frontier Doctor 1 & 2

My son could have been an Andorian you know. Seriously, when he was first born (and I was there), he was BLUE! Thats right, blue, as in Andorian. He never grew out those antennae though. Whew! So what with the interns and all we thought we would revisit and nice little Mint Julep in the 3rd Degree Byrne History. Tim Elliott and Brian Hughes covered the first issue ofStar Trek: Leonard McCoy, Frontier Doctor four years ago and man, we must have been drinking a little too much Saurian Brandy since then because we just dont remember the discussion. I guess we could go back and listen to it, but with all the interns (3 of them) wanting to talk some Trek, we could not resist. So, we will cover all FOUR issues of the series. Two issues with this episode and we will follow it up with the last two next week 2020 willing (I bet that becomes a popular phrase.). Interns David Thompson, John Hijatt and Kirk Greenfield all have some interesting items to contribute, but I just could not shut up on this one. You would think I would take a Sunday off, but no. Tim chimes in and we cover some new ground that we did not think of back in 2016. So grab that Mint Julep, Saurian Brandy, Slusho mix or that last Pan-Galactic Gargle-Blaster and get a little sloshed with that old country doctor as 3rd Degree Byrne coversStar Trek: Leonard McCoy, Frontier Doctor. . Here is our original coverage form 2016: http://twotruefreaks.com/media/podcasts/byrne/mp3/01TBDSTE02.mp3.

3rd Degree Byrne Episode 56: The Untold Legend of the Batman #1

You know, sometimes the titles on these books are just a bit misleading. It is like those video you get links to that talk about some amazing thing that cant be explained, but you know the kid had gas. Anyway. . . 3rd Degree Byrne goes back forty years to read ”The Untold Legend of the Batman” and comment on it just for you! Join Tim Elliott, Brian Hughes, David Thompson, John Hijatt and Kirk Greenfield for a head canon (Copyright Em Middleton) explosion. The discussion goes far and wide across the Batmans Gold and Silver Age. This is some great stuff and it has been covered by others before but not like this. So. . . why do they call it the “Untold” Legend? It was a retelling of Batmans origin and history, which means it was told before, right? This one is gonna keep me up tonight. Maybe I can get Alfred to make me some warm milk. Pull up a glass and join 3rd Degree Byrne as they cover “The untold Legend of the Batman #1”. This one is gonna give you the Joe Chills!

3rd Degree Byrne Episode 54: What The--?! #2

It is time to tug on that Super Sense of humor. Hey, didnt we talk about that recently? Anyway, it has been a tough week and we all needed to take a break from all the seriousness. So we decided, why not take a look at a good old fashioned funny book, a John Byrne funny book. Which book is that funny? How about “What The--?!”? Seriously, it is called “What The--?!”, with all that punctuation and everything. How funny is it? Its a giggle or seven. Really, plus we also talk about a whole bunch of other crap that geeks tend to talk about: The latest movies, the latest TV shows, old movies, old TV shows, the hanging curve ball, high fiber, good scotch, that the novels of Susan Sontag are self-indulgent, overrated crap. (I was just checking to see if you were paying attention there. Thanks to Kevin Costner for the last half of that). Maybe some new Star Trek, Lower Decks, Black Panter, Chadwick Boseman (sad), Andy Samburg and Gene Hackman. We even have a small conversation about “The Conversation”. So, if you are ready for a little funny, check us out as 3rd Degree Byrne looks in on Superbman and the Fantastical Four when we cover What The--?! Issue 2. You just might bust a gut.

3rd Degree Byrne Episode 52: Superman Volume 2 #22

“Some people can read War and Peace and come away thinking it's a simple adventure story. Others can read the ingredients on a chewing gum wrapper and unlock the secrets of the universe.” Yeah, no, this isn’t going to be that deep. “It's kryptonite, Superman. A little piece of the rock you were born on. I've spared no expense to make you feel right at home.” If you want to make me feel at home, make me a pie, preferably rhubarb. “To us, they're just meteorites. Fair enough. But the level of specific radioactivity is so high, to anyone from the planet Krypton, this substance is lethal!” If this stuff were real, you know there would be people wearing all the different colors of the stuff as their bling, just to show off how much money they have. Though in the Byrne era, we only had to worry about the green kind. Green is such a lovely color. Always makes me think of Mountain Dew, or Christmas and sometimes anti-freeze. But that is not the point. The point is that 3rd Degree Byrne is covering Superman #22 in this latest world hopping episode. Tim Elliott, Brian Hughes and Kirk Greenfield put this issue on the Byrner (see what I did there?) and really make a meal of it. There are some real good questions asked, like . . . Are Kryptonian clothes still indestructible after gold Kryptonite exposure? How did Zod keep his hat from falling off his head when crashing through that ship? Super Ears? How did Superman get home? And so many more. So sit back, pull up a chocolate shake (points to anyone that knows the reference) and enjoy as 3rd Degree Byrne covers Superman #22
