Cinemavino — Solamavino

EFor this week’sCinemavino, I return from paternity leave! The past four weeks have been amazing, exhausting, wonderful, and anxiety-laden. And I’d do it all again. We’re so glad to have baby Noah in our lives. Special thanks to Tay, Travis, and Sean for helping me build up a few episodes so I could step away for a bit. This episode only features me. I broke away from baby-raising long enough to watch the first episode ofStar Trek: Picard. The first half of this mini-sode will be spoiler-free, and I’ll give you a heads-up when it changes. Next week, we’ll be back to our normal lineup! Share Tweet Share

This Island Mirth, Pt 1

EIt’s a conversation we’ve all had: The Deserted Island Spectacular. Whichmovie would you take? Which book? What food? What famous person would you want to join you? It’s one of the more fun hypothetical discussions people can have. For this episode ofCinemavino, we talk movies, and which ones we would take to the island with us. It was such a big convo, we ended up splitting it up in two parts. So kick back, and enjoy another fine episode of our podcast! Cinemavino — Mitch Scōggins Share Tweet Share

Oscars Wild

E“The whole goddamn thing is a meat parade. I don’t want any part of it.” George C. Scott, on the Oscars Sure enough, Scott walked the walk. Upon being nominated for his milestone performance inPatton,Scott told the Academy he would skip the ceremony to watch a hockey game on TV. They sent him the award anyway, and he refused it. Likewise, I’ve had a love/hate relationship with the Oscars. The best movies and performances often don’t win. Hell, sometimes they don’t even get nominated. Still, I loved seeing Tom Hanks win forPhiladelphiaand thank his gay drama teacher. And when 11-year-old Anna Paquin, who won forThe Piano andstood onstage with absolutely no idea what to say. Or even the snarky moments, like when Shirley MacLaine won forTerms of Endearmentand whispered to co-star Debra Winger: “This is half yours.” Winger, who loathed MacLaine, shot back: “Okay, I’ll take half, then.” It’s good theater. For this episode ofCinemavino, we talk about the Oscar noms. Once again...

1917

E1917 hits like a ton of bricks. It’s a huge achievementand a hell of movie. I’ll go ahead and predict it for a Best Picture win at the Oscars. For this mini-episode ofCinemavino, we discuss1917–spoiler-free–and breakdown the new trailers forMorbius andBlack Widow. We also share some delicious red wine. The Refugio Pinot Noir from Chile’s Montesecano Winery is quite nice: It’s earthy, peppery, and more full-bodied that some of its California counterparts. To learn a little more, click here. So, kick back and enjoy another fine episode ofCinemavino. See also: 1917 (2019) Share Tweet Share

Cinemavino — And This is 2020

EWe’ve scanned the movie schedule for 2020, and it truly looks like the best of times and the blurst of times. Lots of sequels, prequels, remakes, rehashes, reboots, and screwups. Still, look carefully and you’ll find some good with the bad and ugly. For this episode ofCinemavino, we discuss the upcoming movie schedule. We’re really excited for some of it. (See: No Time to Die.) Other stuff? (Legally Blonde 3?!?) Not so much. We also pound some delicious red wine. My upcoming book will pair classic movies with French wine, and it never hurts to brush up on the subject. Kick back and enjoy another fine episode of our wonderful podcast! Share Tweet Share

Matchups 2: Electric Boogaloo

EAs kids, most of us loved pitting random action figures against each other. Superman vs. He-Man, who would win? Also, my next book will pair classic movies with French wine. To check out my previous release, click below! Share Tweet Share
