CBBC 11: Marvel's Eternals

EHola! A very special CBBC Ep 11, wherein we get ready for next year's MCU introduction of "Eternals" by reading Neil Gaiman and John Romita Jr's series from 2006-07. If you consider yourself a rabid fan of the MCU, or if you like Gaiman, or even if you're simply into a great story, we both highly recommend this one. Check it out. Next episode, for our major, we're finally covering a supes DC book (if you can even call it that): the much-talked about "Martian Manhunter" (issue we're covering here is #10 so catch up). For our indie book, we are going back to Vault Comics with "Black Stars Above #1" by Lonnie Nadler (a known personal fave for Dirk) and Jenna Cha. We give thanks for all y'all and for our Native American people out there, this episode is devoted to your community. Trust!

CBBC 10: Invisible Kingdom #6 / Joker: Killer Smile #1

EHola, boys and girls, it's that time again for more ridiculousness with...the Comic Book Book Club! We've reached that golden number 10 and what a treat we have for you today. Our first book is "Invisible Kingdom #6", a Dark Horse publication (subprinted via Berger Books), written by G. Willow Wilson with jaw-dropping art from Christian Ward (not a surprise in our circles). (Interesting note: this is Karen Berger's imprint, who for the vintage heads will remember was running Vertigo in the '90s). Second, we go with another one of those marked-calender books: "Joker: Killer Smile #1" by the "Gideon Falls" team, writer Jeff Lemire and artist Andrea Sorrentino, with colors by Jordan Bellaire. We absolutely implore you to get both, but listen and hear us tell you why you should. For next episode, we're going all out: in anticipation of one of Marvel's big releases set for next year, we're going back to 2006 and covering Gaiman's "Eternals" book. I think it's a great way to acclimate you...

CBBC 10: Invisible Kingdom #6 / Joker: Killer Smile #1

CBBC 9: House of X #6 / Powers of X #6

EWelcome to the conclusion of the most-talked about series of the year: HOXPOX! For those who are not familiar with that term, that represents House of X/Powers of X, the two separate titles written by Jonathan Hickman, serving a (dire-needed) reboot of the X-Universe. It goes without saying that this is imperative reading, whether you're a comic book fan or not. If you only remember the 90s titles and haven't looked back since, you would do well to at least give it a shot here. It is highly doubted you'll be disappointed: this is possibly the best treatment of the X-Universe in the history of Marvel's production of our favorite mutants. Both issues here involve Jonathan Hickman writing and Pepe Larraz on art, although Powers also has R.B. Silva on art. WIth the conclusion of this miniseries, we head into the Dawn of X, which will launch several Hickman-helmed titles (and to say i'm enthused is an understatement so vast, you could fly a roc through it). Next episode, even through all of the Joker oversaturation, we're covering one we consider a can't miss: Jeff Lemire and Andrea Sorrentino, the team behind Gideon Falls, will be producing Joker: Killer Smile #1 by DC (if you know who these creators are, you're pissing your pants right now in anticipation). We will also be stopping in with G. Willow Wilson and Christian Ward's visually awe-inspiring Invisible Kingdom #6. Get in where you can fit in (j/k love yaaaaall). Read up and talk it through with us. See you soon!
