EWelcome to episode 6 of the Treehouse Comic Podcast, recorded live in front of an audience at the Dundee Comics Creative Space to celebrate the launch of Treehouse #11. The guests this time were David Lumsden (writer of BOAT) and Paul Jon Milne (creator of Guts Power) and we discussed their use of dystopian Scottish settings in their respective comics, as well as their backgorund and creative process. We also discussed their chosen books, The Crow by James O'Barr and Wolverine #51 (1992) by Larry Hama and Andy Kubert. Treehouse Comic Podcast - Episode 5 - Comics Exhibitions and Hubert

EWelcome to episode 5 of the Treehouse Comic Podcast! This time we are joined by Kathryn Briggs - author of Triskelion and long time Treehouse member - and Louise Quirion, a recent graduate of the Comics Masters course at Dundee University. Louise curated the 2016 exhibition "Ink and Pixels" at the Dundee Comics CreativeSpace and Kathryn has organised the Ex Libris book fair at the Dundee Literary Festival for a number of years. We used this opportunity to discuss the unique challenges of showing comics in exhibitions, such as "Ink and Pixels" and the current DCA show "DCA Thomson". We also discuss the book "Hubert" by the Dutch artist Ben Gijsemans, which takes place partly in a museum and takes a very slow-paced approach to documenting the central character. In this episode we visit the Dundee Comics Creative Space (DCCS), and are joined by Damon Herd and Andy Herd (no relation!). Damon works with illustration and comics and is known as Ticking Boy on account of hismechanical heart valve. He is the coordinator of the DCCS. Andy is a coordinator for the DCCS and publishes his comics on his Pandyland site.He is also a fully paid up member of the Treehouse Collective! We met in the DCCS to talk over the work they do there, as well as discuss The Adventures of Tintin: Black Island by Hergé andGenevieve Castree's We're Wolf. Episode 3 -Red Rosa and Woman Rebel In this episode we are joined by Gill Hatcher and David Kerr. Gill is a British Comic Award nominee and the founder of Team Girl Comic and her suggested book was "Woman Rebel" by Peter Bagge, a biographical comic about the Planned Parenthood advocate Margaret Sanger. David is a freelance illustrator and comics artist who is currently providing illustrations for the Lancet medical journal, as well as a long-standing Treehouse member. His suggestion was "Red Rosa" by Kate Evans, a graphic biography of the influential Leftist thinker and activist Rosa Luxembourg. We also discuss the merits of the increasingly popular comic biography genre. Thanks for listening!

We discuss David's suggested book "Trashed" by Derf, a semi-autobiographical account of life working as a bin man in suburban America, and Jon's choice "The Fiction" by Curt Pires, David Rubin and Michael Garland, a Boom! series delving into ideas of fictional creation and the multiple worlds it can create. Also discussed: bands with multiple drummers, Chip Kidd and Death by Design, Puke Force by Brian Chippendale and the horror of garbage as a byproduct of rampant consumerism. Thanks for listening!
