Welcome back to the Candlelit Tales Podcast, and back to this Series on Mythic Places. In this series, we’re taking a look at some of the most iconic locations in Ireland, and the stories and myths attached to them. In this episode, we journey across the road and up the hill to Navan Fort, also known as Emain Macha. In the province of Armagh, Árd Mhacha, where Macha, Queen of the Nemedians, is buried, this fort was named either for the Twins of Macha (stillborn because of Conchubar Mac Nessa’s cruelty and pride) or the Brooch of Macha, with which she traced the outline of the walls. Either way, it is Macha’s place. Welcome back to the Candlelit Tales Podcast, and back to this Series. This series is about the mythic places all over Ireland. And in this episode, we are chatting about the first two episodes, The Giants Causeway and Blarney. Aron and Sorcha are in the “shoffice” again chatting about the beauty of these places, and the stories that go along with two of Ireland's most iconic and sought-after places. We were a bit giddy in this episode, but bear with us, we think we made some good points! We talk about the difficulty in telling a story that is linked with history and honouring the place, which Sorcha found tricky to contend with for the Blarney episode, contrasted to Aron’s story of the Giants Causeway which we have both told numerous times. We love to hear from you, so do let us know what thoughts you’ve had and as always, thanks for listening. This is the story of one of Ireland best known burial cheers. Newgrange is said to have housed the beloved dead of those that knew Boann and the Dagda well. The Majesty of the place can not be argued with. The winter solstice sunrise miraculously lights up the burial chamber deep below. This is the story of how Angus Óg, came about staying there for good. Welcome back to the Candlelit Tales Podcast, and back to this Series. This episode is simply a tester! Aron has a new (ish) laptop and the mic set up needed a bit of tweaking. Alan Homan is helping us get the post production and uploading of the podcast done at the moment, as Oisin has been called to Tír na nÓg again. He’s still helping out through the veil, but we have to test a few things while he’s away. Our next podcast will be released later today, episode 166 - the Revenge of Sín. So stay tuned for another story coming very soon. In this episode, Aron tells us the story of ‘The Revenge of Sín’, a story based in Tara. There are many tales about Tara, where the High King of Ireland ruled from. We chose this because it shows a connection to the land that is not in all the stories. The well being of the land would reflect how the King was the rightful ruler. If the land was sick or there was a plague, it was thought to be the fault of the ruler. This story shows the two sides of that coin, and it has at its centre a woman of the Sídh that caused havoc when she took the throne next to Conn Cead Cathach. Welcome back to the Candlelit Tales Podcast, and back to this Series. This series is about the end of the Fianna and the rebirth of life after death. The transition from the Pagan belief system to catholicism. Sometimes we romanticise the past, and we get a little confused as to what good ideas to take out of it. This episode, is about what we are doing now. Or what some of us can do. Aron had the chance to talk to our brother Neal Hegarty. Neal is over in Guatemala and has a permaculture farm. We talked about Oisin and his trip from Tír na Nóg and what that may represent in our lives today. Have a listen and let us know what you think.
