For anyone who listens to my podcasts, you would know that I gravitate towards missing persons cases. And then decades go by and the case goes cold. How can a person just disappear into thin air?The Charley Project is a detailed, amazing website that lists more then 14,000 missing person cases right across the United States. To me, it’s always sad when these profiles only have a sentence or two because of the lack of information available. But there are others whose disappearance is chilling to the core. It’s always shocking when it is revealed a crime was committed by a minor. When searching for their killer, investigators typically search for those who have patterns of violence and criminal activity. And while there are teens with a juvenile record, they don’t typically fit the profile of a potential murder suspect. And this is supported by statistics. Only 7% of murders that occur in the United States are committed by teenagers and young children. Heinous murders committed by teenagers. Camping. Hunting. Hiking. All things that are synonymous with the woods. The isolated cabin in the woods brings up images of horror movie staples such as Friday the 13th. The woods are a dark, quiet, peaceful and mysterious place where you can relax and forget about your problems. Or can you? What is lurking behind that tree? What was that sound? The woods can also be a haunting setting because you never know what is beyond what you can see.3 Tina Herrmann, Kody Maynard and Stephanie Sprang2 Bella in the Wych Elm1 Japan's Suicide ForestFacebook /mysteriouslylistedTwitter @mysteriouslistMusic is by Myuu See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
The Flinders Highway runs 800km, or almost 500 miles, between Townsville and Mount Isa. Between 1970 and 2018, twelve disappearances have been reported on this length of highway with only one being solved. Leading it to be more commonly known as The Highway of Death. One theory is that a thrill killer operates along the highway. Police have come across leads to support this but none have been conclusive. It’s more likely the crimes were committed by multiple perpetrators who gravitate to the barren stretch of road.8 Judith and Susan MacKay7 Robin Bartram and Anita Cunningham6 Catherine Graham5 Karen Edward, Gordon Twaddle and Timothy Thompson4 Tony Jones3 Michael Isles2 Reece Kearney1 Jayden Penno-ThompsonFacebook /mysteriouslylistedTwitter @mysteriouslistMusic is by Myuu See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
