NOTE: This show was recorded before news of the passings of Kazuki Takahashi and Shinzo Abe. After three years since its last in-person event, Anime Expo had its grand return on the big stage, and to the surprise of few it’s still as imperfect as ever with how the event is actually run and managed. Especially since it’s in Los Angeles in JULY. Nevertheless, this means another extended deep dive at the happenings, goings-on, and announcements from AX 2022, of which there were quite a few that were, to sum up, BIG. In the second half of this two-part episode, days 2 and 3 (and even 4) of Anime Expo are discussed, including panels for two big upcoming series (and Bleach, too), why Tokyopop should always be avoided at all costs, some amusing anecdotes from Dark Horse, even MORE Macross coming soon, and the moment where everyone lost their minds - yeah, THAT moment. In the first half of this two-part episode, we have some pre-and-post AX events to talk about, including some big continuing returns, an update for future Jump+ titles, Netflix doing more Netflix things, and the events of the first day of the 2022 Anime Expo - with plenty of Macross to go around. In Memoriam Billy Kametz 1987-2022 There's been a lot happening over the past few weeks, some good and some not so good. We're here to run everything down, express our jubilation over a few new projects, catch up on some things you and all of us may have missed, and pay our respects to a kind and warm soul taken from this world far too soon. We'll be back to the usual mishaps and shenanigans next time. intro - summer heat everywhere 2:57 - remembering Billy Kametz 15:20 - additional June passings 20:16 - Anime Expo reverses course in just one day 24:59 - Trigun Stampede anime announced from Orange 40:07 - Berserk manga continuing after all 46:10 - One Piece entering the endgame? 50:02 - Chainsaw Man Part 2 set for July 53:35 - Persona headed to more consoles 58:40 - Genndy Tartakovsky doing more for CN/WB 1:00:11 - animated Avatar movies on the way 1:03:01 - a new Astro Boy series in the works 1:07:36 - Justin Lin directing… One Punch Man? 1:10:32 - Tiger & Bunny live-action, round...
Are you all ready for a super-deluxe-loaded fall season? We sure aren't, which is why we're all hoping for the summer season to be a bit easier for us so that we can lead into fall with a bit more ease - though that's not going to be easy with several big shows slated for premiere in October. And with the approach of summer comes convention season, with industry panels big and small and, in this case, a bit Discotek-y as well. Let's hope that Anime Expo won't leave us melting in the summer heat next month, too. Also, HUNTER X HUNTER IS COMING BACK... MAYBE... POSSIBLY... PRESUMABLY. And along with all of that discussion, there are more projects announced that have gotten our curiosity perked up, a good small morsel of sportsball integration, even more plans for trips to the movies, and yet another moment of Andrew breaking down into hilarious hysterics over a rather saucy title. Will ONA.exe return next time? We'll see what everyone has, first. intro - The Morbining 7:59 - HUNTER X ...
After some additional delays and time needed to get our spring season rundown ready, it’s finally here, and it’s another extra-packed edition that, somehow, managed to find 10 minutes to talk about the trash known as Trapped In A Dating Sim. Don’t ask us how it happens. But that’s not what you’re all here for, you’re here for the biggest new hotness since the last biggest new hotness, and we will be talking all about the spies and the families along with some big sequel titles, other notable fares that fall in the com-of-the-rom variety, and even try and piece together what the baffling mess known as Estab Life actually is. You will also get to hear the single funniest moment of this entire show in this episode. With our last show before diving into the spring season, it's only fitting that we have a giant slate of spring season dub casts to run down for this show - hence the surprised Anya face to serve as Andrew's exhaustion over cobbling together all of that information. And along with that, we have a wide discussion over Netflix's very bad week, some movie talk over what and what not to go see, pondering how deep that mysterious Blu-ray master vault really goes, and trying to find a way to end this show on a high note. There's enough horribleness going on in the world as it is, anyway. Stay tuned for next time, as well, where we finally go in on the spring season and probably spend a lot of time gushing over SPY x FAMILY. Which you all should be watching. Many years ago, people were comparing Attack on Titan to The Walking Dead in tone and structure. Today, those comparisons continue, only in a different form with its recent announcement. But to go along with that bafflement, there’s a lengthy discussion on some other rumblings in relation to the anime dub production scene as the spring season prepares to launch, along with some interesting updates to various productions, the latest one-shot from the cinematic auteur known as Tatsuki Fujimoto (Chainsaw Man Part 2 who?), and yet another layer to the wild Prince of Tennis dub saga. April means many things to many people, but in this case it means the end of the winter season and a long list of announcements to talk about from AnimeJapan, in which there were plenty - for good and bad - to go along with the usual rundown of Netflix projects getting revealed and dated, a small bit go house-cleaning of the winter season, an assessment of some good and awful April Fools shenanigans, and maybe, just maybe, some cursed energy sprinkled throughout. It's time for another installment in the Movie Night sub-series, this time talking about the latest shonen blockbuster gracing the big screen: Jujutsu Kaisen 0! And with it comes an interesting twist to the discussion, as two in-the-know fans talk with two new-ish-comers about how the world of JJK actually works, all while having fine discussions about salmon, kelp, and Christmas; yes, this is an unofficial Christmas movie, that's just how it works. start - intro 8:03 - our theater experiences 16:00 - Act 1: puppy love and putty patrollers 40:20 - Act 2: salmon, kelp, and cult leader tactics 1:02:32 - Act 3: Christmas Eve, 2017 1:29:41 - final thoughts additional audio from: Jujutsu Kaisen 0 Freakazoid! The lesson of Toonami turning 25 is that, in 2022, people will yell over everything they do, be it for the good or bad or indifferent. But that's where this show comes in, to lay out a grounded overview of what to expect from the block in the future, be it for the good or bad or indifferent. And along with that lengthy discussion, there are more details over the Crunchyroll-Funimation whatever-it-is and what to (not) expect going forward, information regarding the Toei hack, more details on a perplexing 3DCG film, and above all else Discotek is here to show that they are still absolutely wild with their pickups and restorations. As many should come to expect, by now. Apologies for this show being late, things have been busy. Stay tuned for a make-good in the coming days.
